How long does the domain name cancellation take?
I cancelled my domain name yesterday, but I can’t find any confirmation of the cancellation, and the domain name still comes up as ‘active’ in my dashboard. Does this usually take a few days? Thanks for any help.
The blog I need help with is johnnyduel.com.
I don’t know how long it takes to be reflected in the dashboard. I do know it takes 1 – 2 weeks to receive the refund. I’ll tag this thread for a Staff followup. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.
Thanks a lot :)
I can absolutely help you with that.
Just to clarify, if you want to cancel your domain johnnyduel.com it can take up to several weeks for our domain registrar to release the domain, and it may not choose to do so. We can’t guarantee that your domain will ever be available to you again once canceled. If you have any intention of using johnnyduel.com again in the future, I suggest that you do not choose to cancel.
Please confirm that you understand and want to cancel your domain. Once you have done so, I will cancel it and remove the upgrade from your account.
Please let me know if you have further questions or if anything is unclear.
Thanks for your help. I want to have the option of using that domain name in the future, so I’d like to keep the upgrade. Thanks again.
That is usually the smartest choice if you are looking to use it again.
Remember, you can always update the nameservers to point to your new webhost by using these instructions:
I made a wordpress account today and bought a .com domain name. I changed my mind and cancelled my purchase since I had 2 days to cancel and get a refund. However, right after, I tried purchasing the same .com domain name with another website, but the system had informed me that the domain name is unavailable (so it hasn’t been released yet) I want to use the .com address, is there any way I can redo the cancellation so I get back the .com a.s.a.p? (than I just solve the problem via domain mapping) I need the name rather sooner than later.
is there any way I can redo the cancellation so I get back the .com a.s.a.p?
Do you mean “undo” the cancellation so that it is registered here at WordPress.com again?
Well as long as I can access my .com domain I’ve registered here. Due to the cancellation it’s ‘deleted’ but if I want to buy this domain on an other hosting site it says: domain is taken. So WordPress.com did’t released the domain .com yet, and reading all the topics here there might be a change they will never do. So I would love to turn back the time so I can use my .com domain name. Thanks
So WordPress.com did’t released the domain .com yet
We don’t actually have any control over that. It is a decision/action that is taken by our registrar. This is why we highly discourage people from canceling a domain.
I can, however, try and reverse the cancellation. Is this for johnnyduel.com?
Thanks that would be great. It’s for buromaven.com Hope it works, best
I have reached out to our registrar. I will let you know when I hear back from them. Fingers crossed.
