    Categories and tags are meant for posts, not pages.

    Trying to do same here. I get that cats and tags are meant for posts, not pages. So I guess what I’m after is sleeker category navigation. I’d like to have pages that show only “media” entries, for ex., but without having to use a category or tag cloud in the right-hand column. I’d like it displayed up top, like pages. Make sense?

    I think placing the Categories widget above all others would be enough.

    If you are so interested in having your categories display as tabs in the header, you can create new pages, name them like your categories, and paste the links to the relevant posts in them (it’s easier than it sounds, because you can drag-and-drop the titles of the posts). The drawback is that you’ll have to update the list of titles manually each time you write a new post.

    Note also that the theme you’re using is flawed: if you add so many pages that their tabs won’t fit in a single row, the second row will get hidden behind the header image.

    I’ve done something like this on my site. The two pages “Loose Ends” and “My EZ Palette” have their own content on them, but also contain a link to their relative category, so that if you click on the link, a page is dynamically created that contains the Posts tagged with that category.

    Otherwise, as panaghiotisadam suggests, the category widget at the top of your blog’s sidebar will do exactly the same thing without the need for an intermediary page.

    Another possibility is to create pages whose TITLE is the link to a category page.

    The only problem in this case is that the names given to the links (= what will appear as the page tabs) cannot be single words.

    (I should add that both justjennifer’s idea and my variant of it are better than my original suggestion, as no manual updating is required.)

    As panaghiotisadam suggests, you can turn the pages tabs into category tabs, but it does have its limitations: http://tpvswp.wordpress.com/2008/08/28/how-to-make-category-tabs-in-wordpresscom/

    @kimkm
    That is exactly what I am suggesting in my post (link) above.

    I am still confused and want to know pretty much the same thing as the original poster. I have recently created multiple pages with topics that I envisioned my current posts being edited and linked/ imported to. I can not find how to get that done anywhere. Please help! I am not sure if my template/blog profile is the problem or if Categorization is the only way. Then my question is, what is the purpose of multiple pages then?

    Thank You to anyone who understands and can point me in the right direction.

    Pages cannot be categorized. Categories are for Posts, not Pages. Pages are for static information like biographies, CVs, “Our Home”, stuff like that.

    If you just write Posts instead of pages and add categories to them, then put the category widget in your sidebar and those pages you want, that list everything in a category, will AUTOMATICALLY be generated when someone clicks on them. That’s how blogs and categories work. You do not build a static page outside the blog structure; the category page is generated on the fly whenever someone wants it.

    thanx raincoaster. I was already doing what you suggest, but somewhere in my head I wondered if i could then create pages with only on categorical definition. But YES, one can not categorize pages, they can only posts. So my pages will contain info about the blogger and those partnerships. And when I want to direct the readers to a specific topic or category, I will just label the post with that category.

    Check out the space if you’re bored and in need of a fun time.
