How to add Twitter to my blog

  1. peglegstarfish

I'm new to Twitter and wondering how I can add my Twitter updates to a sidebar widget. I copied and pasted the code from a twitter widget into my wordpress widget, but all I end up with is a link to "follow me on twitter."

Any help would be so appreciated. Thanks!

  2. Didn't help me. I can't get it to work. Followed the directions to a t and nada.

  3. It does work, I just did it in my own test blog for another post.

Post your twitter feed URL here.

  4. Could you be more specific?

  5. On a related note, I followed the instructions in the FAQ and it worked. But it's not displaying any updates from when I first created the widget. Any ideas?

  6. The RSS feeds are cached, meaning that it takes a while for them to update.

  7. Do you know approx how long it takes to update?

  8. No, I don't

  9. What is the feed URL you are currently using?

  10. Thanks @wpvstp, that really helped.

  11. I don't seem to be able to get Twitter to work, actually none of the RSS feeds work. Any idea?

  12. Can you post the RSS feeds you're trying to use here, please?

  13. In addition, the blog linked in your profile does not link to a blog. Can you specify which blog you're asking about?

I tried to use this feed & it appeared on the blog but it stated that an error occurred. Help?

  15. If you are hosted here at wordpress.COM, please provide a link to your blog. And consider linking it in your user name as explained in the sticky at the top of the forum.

If you are hosted here, the problem is that you must replace the word "friends" in the link with the word "user" (no quotes)

  16. You can't use your Friend feed. You can only use your own as far as I'm aware.

  17. Hi, I'm new to all of this. Regarding Twitter, I followed the instructions everyone has been recommending but my blog says "An error has occurred; the feed is probably down. Try again later."

It's said that for ages. Is this related to how long it takes for Twitter updates to appear on WP or is there something else I should be doing?

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere.

  18. Please post the link that you have in your RSS feed.

  19. Thanks. I don't see that link on the blog in your user name. Did you take it off?

  20. Er. Confused now. I took the feed and placed it into the RSS widget as advised. Have I missed something. Sorry, not the most technologically minded of people...

  21. Sorry - didn't mean to confuse you. I clicked on your blog and I don't see the widget in your sidebar. Is that not the blog you are referring to?

  22. OK, I see the problem. Somehow, the link in the RSS feed you have there is to In your dashboard, go to design > widgets and make sure you have sidebar1 selected. Edit the RSS widget (should be the one at the top) and in the url, put in Be sure to click change (at the bottom of the widget) and then save changes (at the bottom of the page). Then see if the message disappears. (Might take a few minutes.)

  23. Sorry, I did as you said and left it half an hour. It still links to my blog. Its no different to what I did before... Any other ideas? :)

  24. You still have the wrong link in there somehow. Sidebars do take awhile to refresh, but it shouldn't take more than an hour.

But when I clicked on that feed link in your post here, it asked for my Twitter API key. Are your updates protected? Because then this will never work.

  25. Aha! You are a genius! Either that or I am a dunce. (Rhetorical question - please don't answer)

It was staring me in the face. I have unprotected my updates and it now works.

It's Sunday. I'm allowed to stupid on a Sunday. Well, that's my excuse anyway...

Thanks to you both for your help :)

  26. Glad you got it to work. (And I didn't know about the protected thing, rain.)

  27. No worries. I did something similarly obvious myself yesterday. You're welcome.
