How to DEACTIVATE wordpress account without deleting and just making it private

  • Due to conflict of interest with my paying job, I need to deactivate my wordpress site. I do not want to delete it, because I want to be able to a) keep my address name and b) what if I want to use it in the future?
I see you can add a plugin but I need my site to appear nonexistent so my current employer is happy. I already made the content all private, but that is still not enough.

    Please help. Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Setting the site to “Private” as you have done is the correct setting

The only other option I can thing of would be to set every Post / Page to “Private” – then if the site is made public anyone visiting would see a blank site with nothing in it

The other option would be to set every Post / Page back to “Draft” – that would also give visitors to a public site a blank site with noting in it

Both options above save the content and still allow you use the name again in the future

If a site is deleted then the name goes away and the name URL CAN’T ever be used again

  • This is helpful. Thank you.

But, apparently now making it private it not enough, because the company thinks I’ll be passing around a password and updating this site.
Any thoughts on how to add a plug-in to say the site is currently unavailable? I can’t find a plug in tab in wordpress, which forums keep saying do not exist, and when I have downloaded a plug in, I can’t figure out what to do with it! Any help would be wonderful! Thanks!

  • You can’t add Plugin’s on WordPress.COM

For someone to view your site now – you need to invite them and they need an account

The only two options I can think of are the ones above – to edit the Posts & Pages and set them to “Private” – then only a logged in user can see them, everyone else can’t see anything – then you can leave the site open and all visitors would see would be a blank site – or you could edit all the Posts & Pages and set them back to “Edit” and they would go away from view but the content would still be saved, and again all anyone would see would be a blank site

You could also delete all the Posts and Pages – but then the content would be lost forever – you could export the site to your PC and that would save the text in an xml file – then you could delete the Posts and Pages if someone is going to want to see the login and wander around your Admin area of your site to see if you have anything hidden
