How to display a single post?

I added a “recent posts” widget to my blog so that I could list my posts in the right margin. I would like to see only my most current post on the home page and not have the posts go on and on down the page. How might I accomplish that? I’m getting ready to do some more posting and would like to find a better way to organize.
Also, is there a way that the post titles listed under “Recent Posts” can be larger and black rather than purple?

    Thanks for your help,

The blog I need help with is

    a) Settings > Reading > “Blog pages display at most”.
    b) Not without the paid CSS upgrade and experience in CSS editing.

There are some themes that allow this for free, like BUENO, for example.
But also, you can switch to 1 in this se tion –> wp-admin/options-reading.php

    Thanks very much to both!

What Panos pointed out is not unique to Bueno. All themes allow for us to change the number of posts shown on the front page of our blogs where Panos pointed to except Monotone and Duotone. Settings > Reading > “Blog pages display at most”.
