How to eliminate the WordPress Banner across blog text on the bottom of Blogs?
I don’t want the new WORDPRESS Banner across the bottom of my, and other blogs I am reading. I already know what I am reading and it takes up room over text at the bottom of the screen. What is it with TV stations and now WordPress that you think we are too dumb to know what we are reading or watching. This advertising is distracting and interferes with viewing. Please remove it or tell me how to. Your Support with other problems I have had have have always been quick and helpful. I hope this annoying one will be too. This ad I am talking about is YOUR AD, not one you are selling. Thanks, Ron Howard

The blog I need help with is howards.wordpress.com.
You can’t. Staff have been introducing “infinite scroll” to themes — a site wide change. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/to-infinity?replies=137
See here for Disabling Infinite Scroll on your WordPress.com Blog http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/03/16/disabling-infinite-scroll-on-your-wordpress-com-blog/
Note that “disabling” the feature (when you use footer widgets) simply changes it from loading automatically to loading via the “Load More Posts” tab, and you can’t disable that “Load More Posts” tab from appearing without the Custom Design upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/
I’m sorry about the “you can’t” above. Please ignore it.
I am an 80 year old so not real computer savy. Are you saying the only way to get rid of it is to upgrade, or find another blog source? I don’t see the advantage to WordPress for doing this, unless they want to force upgrades, any more than it makes sense for the TV channels to do the same thing. These Identifiers are distracting and annoying and cover text unless you scroll past it. Not very User/customer friendly.
There is no way to get rid of it as long as you are at WordPress.com. If you move your blog elsewhere, it doesn’t appear. There is no upgrade that gets rid of it. Even CNN has it on their site.
1. You can use a workaround.
2. If you use it there will be a Load more posts link
3. If you want to remove that Load more posts link then you need an upgrade.
I used the workaround and did not buy a custom design upgrade. See the Load mor posts button at the bottom of my page here > http://thistimethisspace.com
Thanks to all for your comments and help. It is too bad, that WordPress would put something on the blog that makes it more difficult to use, unless you upgrade. But it is free so they can do what ever they want. I may have to look for another blog site. They have continually made it more difficult to reach the WordPress Support directly too. I am not a very negative person usually but when I am satisfied with what I am using and someone messes it up I don’t like it. I know, if you don’t like it, you don’t have to use it, its free.
Not all users are that computer literate.
Hi Ron. Are you referring to the thick red banner at the bottom of your blog?
Blog at WordPress.com. | Theme: NotesIL — Designed by Jordan Lewinsky.
Because that banner is specific to that theme. If you don’t want it, you can easily change the theme… just click here:
If that is what’s wrong, you should know that all the free WordPress themes have a notice at the bottom letting people know who designed it. Most just do it more discretely than the one on your blog.
What I have been experiencing does not show up at the bottom of the blog I am writing, or when I read my posted blog. It only appears at the bottom of other people when I read theirs. One of my daughters does a blog in WordPress and a friend does one in WordPress. The translucent looking banner at the bottom of their blog gives the name of their blog, wordpress.com, and the name of the theme. That is what I find annoying. It is much like just about every TV channel now who have logos, station ads, etc., on the screen overlaying part of the movie or program you are watching, telling you what channel, movie, or program you are watching and ads for later programs and movies. So I don’t think changing my blog theme would rid me of seeing the banner I see when reading othr people’s blogs. I appreciate the suggestions though.
Changing THEIR blog theme would change that. Changing yours won’t.
…and other blogs I am reading.
Hi Ron… sorry, I missed the part about you seeing it on other blogs. Believe me, you’re not the only person who finds those banners annoying.
If you want you can ask your daughter and your friend to disable the “infinite scroll” feature, which is the problem. It might mean changing themes, but that’s easy. Just direct them here:
Hope this helps…
I really appreciate the helpfulness of all of you in trying to solve my problem. You have been very helpful, really. unfortunately, it is a problem that was created by WordPress and I don’t understand their reasons for it. It appears to be a totally unnecessary function. So, I guess I will just live with it for now and if it gets to be more annoying to me I will find a different source for my blog. It is great that there are those of you interested and willing enough to try to help others on here, and do the job WordPress should be doing, and you are to be commended. Again, thanks to you all.
