How to show only titles in archives, categories and tags

    I’m using Hemingway.

    Is there any way whereby we can show only titles in archives excluding categories and tags. In the same way, I want to show only titles in categories and tags, since now it seems too messy with too many words…

    The blog I need help with is architecturalecologies.wordpress.com.

    That functionality is theme-dependent and cannot be changed. Every theme works different.

    @yukiominobe

    Using the archives shortcode will make a page (post, or text widger) with a list of titles only. Try the postbypost option. Unfortunately there is no similar shortcode for categories and tags.

    Thanks for the addition, tess. I keep forgetting about these details, now that I’m on .org mostly.

    Thank you very much for your helps, husdai and 1tess!

    Actually, I read before the page husdai suggested, which is really helpful one for me as a novice, and tried to insert only a space within the excerpt box in order to show only titles in archives and categories, but I couldn’t get what I wanted. Probably, I misunderstood the author’s intention.

    Probably, it seems like that I should make my original one with a page or text widget other than default functions. I’ll try it, and reply further if I still have problems.

    Many thanks to husdai and 1tess!

    Here are two articles that might be useful. Unfortunately with the Hemmingway theme, your custom excerpts appear only on the front page. The category and archive pages show titles only and not the custom excerpts you write.

    Perhaps one of the other themes would appeal to you…

    Yes, the archives shortcode is relatively new so I thought you’d overlooked it.

    @yukiominobe
    Should have refreshed before posting.

    But I remembered something odd about Hemmingway so I was trying it in my test blog. You did not misunderstand Panos’ intent. It’s just that the excerpts show only on the front page on Hemmingway.

    In my opinion, it’s an attractive theme, but it’s quirky.

    Thanks for your additional reply, 1tess!

    Yes, I have noticed your impression on Hemingway, since it has some difficulty for customisation in a free mode while it’s pretty cool… But I would stick to it for some time.

    Anyway, thank you very much indeed!

    You are welcome!

    Sorry, there is a misunderstanding: yukiominobe wants to get rid of the post metadata in archive pages. That’s a CSS customization question.

    And the meta data is not separated by page type, so removing it removes it from all posts no matter where they are – main page, single post page, categories, tags and archives pages.

    Not so much a misunderstanding as a wish for more customizable themes. Yes?

    Many thanks to Panos, thesacredpath and Tess.

    As for me, after thinking a bit wisely, I just changed my theme from Hemingway to the Journalist v 1.3 to avoid complicated things for a novice… While Hemingway seems to be pretty cool, I think it has some deficiency on some summarising like archives.

    I wish we had more options for customization in their default functions with free!
