How to use Categories widget?

  I’m completely new to the wordpress enviro. I hope I can learn where I can figure things out on my own. Right now, I’m wondering how I can implement the Categories widget from within the new theme called Springloaded. I’ve added the widget but I don’t see how to assign my varying pages to a given category. Thanks for help with this, I’m sure it’s a no-brainer but these upper-level interfaces just evade my logic sometimes.

  @spaciouscritter – Pages can not be categorized. Only posts can be. This FAQ entry helps to clarify the differences:
