I can only add posts to my menu, but I want to add pages

I’m sure this is an FAQ, but I haven’t been able to find any decent answer to my problem.

I’m using Twenty Twelve theme and want to add new menu items to my top menu. When I create a new page it publishes fine but when I go into Appearance / Menus I’m only given the option of adding ‘Posts’ to my Menu’s and not given any option to add ‘Pages’.

Could I please get some idea on why that would happen?

Should new Pages automatically appear in my Primary Menu or is there something I am not doing?

The blog I need help with is arquetopiafoundationfordevelopment.wordpress.com.

Sorry, actually what I meant to say is that it doesn’t publish at all, but it creates the page fine… basically my new pages are not appearing in my top menu.

If you have a custom menu, nothing automatically appears in it. You have to edit it by hand. If you don’t, then pages appear in it and posts do not. Which do you have? Are the pages sub-pages?

    a) If you’re using a custom menu, new static pages won’t show in the menu except if you have selected the option “Automatically add new top-level pages to this menu”.
    b) If you’re not seeing the Pages module in Appearance > Menus, click Screen Options (top right) to activate it.

For details on custom menus see this post of mine:
