I cannot get a sitemeter or google analytics on my blog

  1. My blog is in the Twenty Sixteen Theme. I want to get either Sitemeter or Google Analytics on my blog. But there is no 'PlugIn' tab in WP-Admin, and no way to get to header.php.

    What to do?

The blog I need help with is

  2. That's because you're using has built in stats, which can be accessed here

You can use google analytics if you purchase wordpress business plan ($299/year)

Or, install wordpress on your own hosting, which can be downloaded from wordpress.ORG

  3. Hi elte,

OK. Not being familiar with WordPress levels before, does this mean that there is no way to get Sitemeter or Google Analytics on the free version of comes with a hosting cost, so is not necessarily cheaper...

Those built-in stats seem somewhat limited in detail and scope (i.e. they do not account for visited between pages at my site, just the initial visit).

    Any thoughts?

  4. re: sitemeter
You have to use the non_JavaScript code. You simply copy and paste it into a text widget and that's it.

  5. re: googles analytics
There is no alternative when it comes to wordpress.COM hosted blogs. You either purchase the Business upgrade for $299 US per year or you don't have access to Google Analytics.

  6. timethief,

OK, if I want to use free Sitemeter for my blog,...

    How do I get a non-javascript code?

Where do I go to install the widget?

One of the links you posted in your 10:25 comment is dead. Is there an example blog that you know of, that I can look at?

Sorry, I am a total newbie.

  7. Did you go to the sitemeter site and look for support there?

  8. No. I don't think I get email-support there, from what I could tell.

Where do I go in free version to install the widget?

  9. The code comes from Sitemeter, not from wordpress.COM. Once you get it from Sitemeter you copy and paste it into a text widget.

  10. So where I see :

Appearance > Widgets, I then see a list of widgets. Among them is 'Text', with the caption 'Arbitrary Text of HTML'.

The problem is, when I post any code (say, from Sitemeter), the code does not display Sitemeter, it just displays the text of the code...

See at my blog, in the sidebar, under 'Google Analytics'.

  11. If you post Javascript code the software will strip it out. Like I said above you can only use the pure HTML code.

  12. If you post Google analytics code in a text widget it will not display.

  13. It has (tentatively) worked! Thank you!

I was rather aggravated by this obstacle, but now it seems simple in the end. The key difference was that Javacode does not take in free WP, but HTML does..

You may call yourself 'timethief' but you have *saved* a lot of my time...

  14. You're welcome and best wishes. :)
