Why doesn't my Amazon affiliate program work on my blog?

First of all, I am not very familiar with WordPress. I was hoping it would be a little easier for beginners. I get very frustrated because I don’t really understand what I’m doing, so I am hoping you can explain this to me in first grade language so I can understand.

I’ve been trying to link books mentioned in my blog to Amazon. I try to paste their html into the blog and it just shows the whole html, rather than the highlighted book.

I’ve contacted Amazon, but they didn’t give much detail. Is the problem on the WordPress side? Is there a problem with using links to Amazon?

Thanks in advance for your time and patience. Beginners are frustrating, I’m sure.

If it’s just a text link, make sure that you’re following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/

If you’re linking cover images, you might want to try uploading them yourself, and applying the Link URL to the uploaded image: http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/

This is a WordPress.com account. Does that make a difference?

No difference, those are the instructions for WordPress.com blogs.

I’m about to rip my hair out. I got into the HTML view, I highlighted the words I wanted to link to the book in Amazon,
    I pressed the “link” button,
I pasted the HTML link into the URL box where it says http:/ then my html code I got from Amazon,
I pushed the get link button and it highlights my whole blog post.
I previewed the post and the whole html code is there at the beginning of my post.

    What am I doing wrong?

You shouldn’t entering any HTMl code into the link, it’s just a link.

Just enter the http:// URL and no other code.
