I don’t have permalinks and plug ins
Oh, you do have ‘permalinks’, but no plugins. The URL of any post or page on your blog is the ‘permalink’ of said post or page. There really is no need for a permalink plugin on wordpress.com. As to Google Analytics, with wordpress.com you cannot add that, and there is no paid upgrade for that either.
I’m working with a tutorial system online and he’s telling us how to do google analytics on wordpress, I’m going to e-mail this guy and get his angle on this. Thanks for you comment.
You are aware there are two kinds of wordpress? Self-hosted and limitless wordpress.org and free-hosted and limited wordpress.com?
I’m not sure what I have, wordpress hosts my url, but I don’t think that I am paying anything for it. I’m new at this, so I might have signed up for the wrong thing.
We cannot tell which you have for 100% certain without the URL of the blog, but if you don’t have a plugin tab, you’re probably hosted here and watching a tutorial that doesn’t apply to our software.
See this support document for the differences between wordpress.COM and wordpress.ORG: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ .
Is this the blog you are talking about http://timtitus.com/ ? If so, it is hosted here at wordpress.COM with domain mapping. Most of the stuff you find – tutorials and such – on the internet refer to self-hosted wordpress.ORG blogs and in most cases do not apply to blog hosted here at wordpress.COM. We have restrictions on what we can do here where .ORG blogs have virtually no restrictions.
At wordpress.COM, we cannot use plugins: http://support.wordpress.com/plugins/ .
Google Analytics is not allowed because wordpress is already using it: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/08/03/can-i-use-google-analytics/ .
Then read this:
thesacredpath, I am timtitus.com, I am wordpress.com not .org, so the reason these attempts have failed is because I can’t do plug ins and I can’t import an appearance theme from another site. I guess I’m OK with that, because I don’t have extra money to spend.
Any opinion on how important Google Analytics is for doing business?
Thanks for all of your help.
GA, if we could use it, would give a lot more information, but exactly how useful all that information is over what wordpress.COM provides in their blog stats is lost on me since I only check my stats about once a week anyway.
You can get some additional information by using something like statcounter or sitemeter although what you will get on your blog here will be limited due to the restrictions here. If you want to check out the sitemeter or statcounter option, see this FAQ: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/07/28/can-i-have-a-statcounter-on-my-blog/ .
Thanks, I’ll check this out.
