I think my blog has been hacked

I think my blog has been hacked or tampered with as when I try to access it a page of adverts comes up and none of my blog is available. My domain name payment is up to date in my name and the editable information for the blog is still accessible on the dashboard but it seems that when I type in our website address or try to link to the blog from the dashboard it goes to this advert type page. What can I do to restore our website? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    yours in desperation Chris

The blog I need help with is rutterandbennett.com.

Please provide a link to the blog you are asking about, starting with http:// so we can take a look.

Thanks 1tess – the blog is at http://rutterandbennett.com
It was originally rutterandbennett.wordpress.com but we have arranged for the domain name rutterandbennett.com to be pointed to the wordpress site (I think I understand that bit correctly – I’m not really that clued up on blogging, etc).
    Hope this helps.

Did you follow the directions at http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/ for rutterandbennett.com? I’m guessing you haven’t since the nameservers you’re using for the domain are not from wordpress.com.

Your domain mapping is still good with us, but it does look like your domain registration may have expired, or the nameservers aren’t set correctly.

I recommend contacting your domain registrar ASAP.

Thanks very much for the replies – I’ve left a message with the support people at BT where my domain name is registered and I’ll see what they say. Relieved to hear that you think it might just be something technical although we have made no changes recently and the BT operative I phoned earlier did say that our domain name registration was still paid up and current. He said he didn’t have access to all our information to see what was happening with our site and to contact the specialist support guys for that. I’ll let you know what they say.

A whois search shows the name-servers not pointing to WordPress.COM but the registration being current – at any rate a serious chat with the Registrar is in order.

I’ve just tried to access our blog using the original rutterandbennett.wordpress.com title which I believe should still work even if our paid domain name of rutterandbennett.com is not correctly configured to point to the blog(?) and the same adverts come up.
Not sure if this is helpful or not.
Macmanx – when you say the domain mapping is still good with you, what does that mean exactly? Sorry to be not very tech savvy.

Basically, you pay for two services related to your domain:

    1. Your registration, you pay to someone else, I guess BT.

    2. Your domain mapping, which you pay us to direct your domain to your blog. Your domain mapping is still active until it expires February 3, 2012.

I have switch your blog’s primary domain back to http://rutterandbennett.wordpress.com/ for now, so at least that will work. Once you get the domain weirdness figured out, you can change that again via Store -> Domains in your blog’s Dashboard.

Thanks macmanx – that’s great, and I’ll see what the response is from BT in the morning re. the our domain pointing (I’m in UK).

    You’re welcome!

Hello everyone – after a chase round the houses with BT they have renewed the domain name (although even someone at BT said it appeared to be still active) and given me 3 years free service as a ‘goodwill gesture’. Suspect there was a cock-up and they are now being nice.
Thanks for all your help and timely responses.
