I want more space, not an upgrade

    I need more space to upload pictures but it seems that whichever route I choose to try and just buy some more space I end up at a page which offers me nothing more than the opportunity to upgrade to premium.

    I’d rather not go searching for another host, but paying for premium features that I don’t want seems madness.

    The blog I need help with is aphotogenicworld.wordpress.com.

    I don’t know of any other free host that provides no bandwidth limitations and the extremely generous free space allocation we have for Media here http://en.support.wordpress.com/space-upgrade/

    I do know that I see bloggers uploading HUGE images right out of their cameras rather than resizing them and optimizing them for the web. Those blogger who do that:
    don’t get the best image quality possible;
    waste their free image storage space allocation;
    end up troubleshooting images.

    Provided you have not exceeded the free space allocation for media http://en.support.wordpress.com/space-upgrade/ and you do not have any browser related issues http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/ please read what follows.
    These are the accepted file types:
    .jpg/.jpeg
    .gif
    .png
    Instructions here http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/
    Here are more details about the options for uploading images http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/04/26/images-the-three-link-options/

    Perhaps I wasn’t clear – I’m prepared to pay for a space upgrade, but whenever I follow the links to the store I always end up at a page that offers me nothing but the opportunity to buy a Premium upgrade. The 3.0 gig has been great for a couple of years of blogs but I want to buy more. You don’t seem to want the business!

    Aha! Thanks so much for the clarity. I did not know what you meant. Provided you are logged in under the exact same username account that registered the blog what your described should not be happening to you here > Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades

    I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

    Do you see the Space Upgrade listed at https://aphotogenicworld.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php ?

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Sorry about that. It seems we are running certain tests on that page.

    Could you please let me know which Space Upgrade you wanted to purchase and on which blog?

    Thank you!

    @kardotim – wow – yes an issue – we have enough problems in the forum with people getting things they don’t need or want –

    the Stores screen now has no individual upgrades – this means people will be either confused like the OP here has been for several days, or be overcharge for a $ 99.- package with all they want is a $ 13.- or $ 30.- upgrade – and then upset with the up sell or be turned off with the high prices –

    Hi there, can I make a suggestion? In order to maximize your storage space and to retain image clarity, use an image processing program to resize and optimize your images before you upload them.

    There are a number of suggestions on this page and I can also recommend jpegmini to help slim down your images without changing their clarity.

    @karim- At first I was going to ask if it was still possible to purchase features directly from the individual upgrade in the premium features page, but clicking to apply certain upgrade on a site simply reroutes you back to your dashboard’s store where the upgrade you clicked on isn’t in the shopping cart, space upgrade being one of them. :/

    Thanks for that, it’s something I’ll look at the for the future, but the original limit has lasted me well – I’m not uploading 24mb every time, though I acknowledge I could do better!

    You can click on the Purchase button at https://aphotogenicworld.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades to activate the upgrade.

    @justjennifer and @auxclass Thanks for the feedback and tips, I’ve just sent it to our Store team.
