  6. Sorry about the typos above. I have drops in my eyes and can't see well right now. Here's an edited version:

How do you know what's popping up isn't advertising from Are you sure it's not in your browser? What does it say? has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read the advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all.

The only way to get rid of all advertising on our free hosted blogs is to purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade.

Is there anything else, aside from advertising that makes you think your blog was hacked?

  7. Aha! Now I see what you mean.

Go to your email program and change the password to a very difficult one because that's how many hackers gain access to blogs

    2. Disable post by email >

    3. Disable post by voice >

    4. Change your blog password to a very difficult one >

    5. Use a secure, encrypted connection to connect to your Dashboard. Under Users → Personal Settings, check the box that says “Always use HTTPS when visiting administration pages, and click Save Changes.

  9. Thanks so much for the responses - I am a pretty simple tech user - just wanted to post some pics and recipes for barbecued oysters, pasta, etc. for a few friends - but some how seem violated with this ad showing up. I think I just need to get out of this blog thing - probably just a little to bit of the older generation.

  10. Keep the faith and your blog - great way to share things with family and friends - just follow the advice above - it is really not that hard to clean things up
