I would like to view my Ham. Can I do that and if so how? Thanks!

  1. I have 70 ham on my web site, these are apparently legit comments. I would like to see them to check I am not missing any comments from friends etc. Some I know said they sent a comment that hasn't turned up and I wonder if it is in ham. I might be missing legit comments and people wondering why I am not responding. Can I view my ham?

The blog I need help with is

  2. "ham" is just the site's way of referring to comments that aren't spam, so when you go to "comments" tab the comments you see when you click the "approved" link at the top of the page are your "ham" comments.

If you think you are missing comments, or that comments you want are getting stuck in spam, on the comments page click the "pending" tab and the "spam" tab to see if anything you want to appear on your site got stuck there. If not, you probably have everything.

If you want to make extra sure, you can go to settings>discussion from your dashboard and change the "Akismet anti-spam strictness" from strict to "safe." That way you'll have the chance to see every thing.

  3. Thanks Liz for your email. I tried what you suggested. I still have the problem that my Askimet stats say I have 72 hams but I have only 2 comments when I click on the approved link. The Askimet anti spam is on safe anyway. I am concerned that I am unable to access valid comments people are making. I know of one that has been sent and hasn't turned up on view. It would be really good to be able to access the comments people are making.

    Any more ideas?

  4. Do you see the missing comments when you click this link?

  5. HI Liz, I clicked on the link and just saw my 2 published comments. And 1 spam.

  6. Well you've stumped me. Without access to your dashboard (which you shouldn't give me) I can't think of anything else to try. I'll tag this thread for staff attention. You should hear back sometime on Monday or Tuesday. Few staff people work on the weekend, and they answer the oldest threads first, so it could be a little while before you hear back, but not super-long. It's better to avoid commenting on the thread if you can as a new comment bumps the thread's timestamp and can increase your wait.

  7. Hi Liz, Thanks so much for trying to help. The Ham has gone up to 76 now and 2 comments I can see! I hope I find an answer.

    All the best,

  8. just as an experiment I just posted a comment to your blog that says it's awaiting moderation. Do you see it on your dashboard?

  9. Hi Liz,

Interestingly it hasn't appeared. MaureenCarruthers sent a test and that got through. Curious!

  10. My bad--I am both MaureenCarruthers and Lizthefair. But my comments are getting through logged in and not logged in with different e-mail addresses. So, while I'm still not totally sure where what the 70 extra comments are, I'm guessing they might be actual spam. If you could ask your friends to try to comment again that might be helpful. Otherwise, it's best to try to let it go until a Happiness Engineer can help you later this week.

  11. Good idea. Thanks for your advice. It is hard to ignore the ever rising figure of hams, now 85, but it seems a high volume I must say. I just wonder if there is one or two valid comments in among it all. So maybe the Happiness Engineer will enlighten me later on.

Thanks for trying to help and for testing the traffic systems.

PS Logging off for a while now!

  12. Hey, I just wanted to let you know there seems to be a bug with "ham" counting. I saw a staff member respond to questions about it here:

  13. Hi Liz,

Thanks so much. That would seem to explain my situation. The ham just keeps growing! I appreciate your efforts on my behalf. I think I will just not worry too much about it.

  14. cool. That sounds like a good plan. I'm going to remove the "modlook" tag since we now know the issue is a known bug. Thanks for being so patient while we tried to work it out!
