I had the same problem as you ericsgirlie!

I solved it in IE by installing the latest Shockwave Player, Flash Player and JAVA. Firefox gives me the same blank screen though.

It seems in Firefox you have to totally disable your popup blocker. However, I did that and I’m still stuck at the “Choose Image to Upload” point. I click, the words turn red, nothing happens.

Latest Flash player, FF 2.0.0.13 on Windows 98.

And I refuse to use Photobucket as an alternate host because I went there and my browser got hijacked to some bogus security site. If that’s an ad, I want no part of it.

If you’ve got a Flickr account, I’d use that for now.

What’s interesting is that some people who are experiencing problems are still using Windows 98. And apparently cannot get a Java update for it.

    A reminder for Java updating:

Version 6 Update 5 is the latest,

You have the recommended Java installed (Version 6 Update 5).

    @mikecane:

I can tell you what it’s like to work the new UI with an Eee PC: A disaster. Uploads do not work at all since only the center part of the applet is shown. And using the dashboard or posting new entries involves LOTS of scrolling.

While updating Java or FlashPlayer might be an option for tech-savy people, the software design and the intended audience of the Eee PC lead me to believe that the majority of its owners will not be able to do this.

I guess I will have to resort to an external editor like ScribeFire…

@dbkubla: Thanks for that advice! I will stay away from the EeePC for blogging. (It’s a good thing now I didn’t have the extra $ to buy it when it first came out!)

@phattrance: Did you try Firefox or Safari? I hate asking people to try a different browser, but sometimes that workaround can work.

(I wish I could reach through the screen to see inside everyone’s computer to find out what the muckup is!)

I am using Firefox 2 (2.0.0.13) under XP and it works (it also works with Safari). Could you try that? Be sure (here’s the litany…) to update Flash, Shockwave, Java, clear browser cache, log out of WordPress, close browser, reboot PC. (I’m sure you’re as sick of reading that as I am of typing it!)

I want to bang my head on my desk.

I can only hope this is an issue WP’s techies know about, *understand*, and are working on a fix. A *formal announcement* to that effect would do wonders for WP’s PR!

    Anyone at WP reading this?!

I still can’t upload photos, among various other bugs, such as the freaky widgets and the inability to insert pictures into posts. This has been going on since Friday. I can’t believe there have been no posts on the WP blog telling us what the heck is going on. And I’ve already exchanged 17 e-mails with WP support. No progress.

ok guys, found a temporary fix to paste all of the image files from the gallery section is to write [gallery] in the post and it will paste all the images that you have uploaded to the post even it you cannot see the images in the gallery section.

    Hi, guys

Its seems that I have the same problem: I can not upload any photo…

The white box with black top and an “X” on the top right corner appears… but nothing happens!

    Heeeeelp!

We’ve already fixed a number of uploader problems, and we’re working hard to try to track down and fix the rest. Unfortunately we’re receiving many vague reports (“nothing happens”) but very few that include sufficient information (such as the basics suggested here).

Please don’t assume we know what you know and see what you can see. Please try to include sufficient information when posting a question or contacting support. We cannot help otherwise.

Has anybody heard anything at all about the inability to upload photos? I’m on the sixth day without being able to upload photos. My support request with WP is in limbo, after 17 e-mails. Haven’t heard anything.

staboo: I just uploaded a test image to your dashboard. It worked perfectly.

I am wondering if there’s any difference between updating your Flash from Adobe Flash or Shockwave Flash? Because I only updated from Adobe. If they are different, I’m going to do a lengthy blog post about the essential utility of differentiation in nomenclature which should be brought to the attention of all techies who are out there naming software.
