image widget doesn't work in Inuit Theme
The image widget doesn’t work in the Inuit Theme. I’ve followed the instructions (http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/image-widget/#image-widget-alt-text) and the widget title shows up, but there is no image. The alternate text shows up, but there is no image. I tried multiple images from my media library (inserting the image URL — both the full URL and the shortcut URL), but only the title and the alternate text shows up. I tried the widget in the sidebar and on the front page intro, but no image shows up.
I’ve tried it in Firefox, Safari and Chrome. I don’t have Explorer (they discontinued Explorer for the Mac).
The blog I need help with is holtwebb.wordpress.com.
If you would like to add a link in your sidebar but don’t know how to write HTML code, the easiest way is to start a new post (make sure it is empty) and use the Visual editor to create your link. Have you tried that?
The image widget works in all themes. When it doesn’t display an existing image, this means you haven’t used the right URL. Image URLs always end with the filetype suffix (jpg or png etc). To get the right URL for an Image widget, you upload the image in Media > Add New then copy the File URL.
The URL you’re using at the moment is http://wp.me/a3JB0-3i: shortcut URLs won’t do.
The full URL for that shortlink is:
This is also wrong, because it’s not the URL of an image, it’s the URL of an attachment page with the image on it. The right URL is this:
But! this is a huge image. The theme will automatically scale it down to make it fit, but some bad browser versions don’t understand this and may display the image in its original size or distorted. You must first downsize a copy of the image to the right width then upload that copy. The width of the sidebar in Inuit is 225px.
Thank you both for your help. I think I’m on the right track now.
