Images in the Top Posts & Pages widget

  1. What determines which images appear in the Top Posts & Pages widget when using the Image List format? Is it supposed to be the first image in a post? The biggest? The featured image? Does shape or proportion matter? I have one post where I wanted the featured image to show in the widget, but the larger second image shows instead. Most of the time it seems to be the featured image, but often that's the only image in the post anyway. And I have at least one post where no image at all shows even though there are two in the post and one of them is designated as the featured image (I've even tried deleting and re-uploading the image).

The blog I need help with is

  2. It should look for a Featured Image first. Could you please send a link of the post you are referring to?

  3. Currently none of the problem posts appear in the widget. The most recent problem was When it appeared it the widget, it was the photo of Wendy Davis, not the featured image of her shoes that showed in the widget. When appears in the widget, it shows no image at all.

  4. It's hard to investigate when the post isn't listed in the widget anymore. Sorry for our delayed reply that caused this.

However, dont hesitate to reply back in this thread when it happens again.

  5. Thanks. Will do.

  6. The widget now shows a listing for the post "Travelers Advantage: There oughta be a law." This is the one where no image ever shows in the widget, even though the first image in the post is designated as the featured image. Probably won't be there for more than a day or so.

  7. I actually see an image:

Do you also encounter this issue in a different browser? for example Firefox or Safari?

Otherwise please try clearing out your cache and cookies using the guide below:

  8. Sorry, I missed your last response but I've since cleared my cache and cookies.

The issue has occurred again this evening. I do not see the image in the widget in either Chrome or Firefox.

I guess I'll just have to hope other people see it as you do.

  9. If you want you can send me a screenshot. You can simply upload the screenshot to your Media Library, like any other image, and I'll be able to access it from there.

The page at the following link has some helpful tips for taking screenshots:

Alternatively you can visit your blog from a different computer or Internet connection to see if it works there.

  10. Screenshot from this morning:

I tried inserting a completely new image as the featured image and it still doesn't show.

  11. I just checked on my big Windows machine (vs. the Mac laptop) in Chrome and Firefox. It doesn't show there either.

  12. I just noticed when closing some tabs that if I'm previewing a post, the missing image appears. I tested with several posts in both Chrome and Firefox. In preview mode, the image is visible. In normal blog viewing mode, it is not.

  13. I see we are having slightly different results in the widget. Could you please follow these instructions to see if there are any browser errors: ?

    Looking forward to your reply.

  14. Assuming I did everything correctly, I think these are the screenshots you wanted:

I saw no errors in Firefox and I've no idea what the information on the Chrome screen means.
Be aware that the post/image in question has now dropped off my front page, so the result of any changes or corrections I make will not be apparent until/unless that particular post gets into my Top Posts again.

I appreciate your time spent here, especially since a browser problem is not really your problem and this is not a major issue.

  15. I kept an eye on your widget but still couldn't reproduce the issue.

If you run any browser extensions or add-ons, please disable them to see if that helps. Or follow the instructions in this guide on how to reset Firefox:

If both doesn't work, try to reproduce the issue from an Internet connection on a different geographical location.

    Thank you.

  16. I'll try some of these if/when that post makes it into the widget again. Unless it's there I've no way of knowing the effect of any changes I might make.

In any case, if it's a browser problem, it's not WordPress's problem. Thanks for the time you spent on this. I appreciate it.
