Images & migration to self-hosted WordPress

    Hello,

Let’s say I have a blog here example.wordpress.com and I choose to migrate to WordPress.org (by using the importer plugin).

Now as you probably know it gives two options regarding images. We can either download images from our wordpress.com server or we can import content only so that images are still hosted by wordpress.com.

So my question is will those images be available forever or should I use the “download to new server” option?

Also, I see that we can download images later by following the same procedure. But still I want to confirm the same… as I don’t want to lose those images in anyway later.

The images will not be available forever. Nothing on the internet is. If you download the images to your new server you’ll have better SEO on the new blog and more control over the images and you won’t be surprised later like all those people on Squarespace or Posterus.

Thanks for the quick response… I think I will use the download option itself.
