images not visible on front page after moving from old theme to new theme
My current template is Rounded. I want to change to a template that has a front page showing images as links to posts, such as AutoFocus. When I preview this theme and other similar ones, no images appear on the front page. They do appear in individual posts.
So lss my husband got involved and exported the whole blog to another server and downloaded wordpress.org and found that if I delete the images and re-add them from the media library, they start to show up on the front page. But it has to be done individually by image, and the title, etc must be re-entered. Some images which were inserted but not added to the image library appear not to be available at all.
Is there a simpler way to do this? And, does wordpress.org function the same ways as wordpress.com in this regard?
The blog I need help with is veronicasgarden.wordpress.com.
AutoFocus’ prominent single post featured images, which when set manually are placed front and center, above your post’s title and content. The maximum width of single post featured images is 800.
AutoFocus responds to not only single image posts but also full galleries. If you would prefer to forego a large featured image above your post content and instead showcase an entire set of photos then simply insert a gallery into your post without manually setting a featured image. http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/autofocus/
Main page and archive pages on Autofocus don’t rely on featured images. Featured images have to be set manually to each post. Each post on the main page and on category/archive pages will display a regularly inserted image (provided the image had been uploaded via the Add Media button of that post).
The only difference is when you view a single complete post: regular image shows below the post title, max width 590px, featured image shows above the post title, max width 800px. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/autofocus-front-page-question-featured-image-conversion?replies=3#post-768789
This brings up a question that hadn’t occurred to me, about single posts. Does Autofocus allow alternating images and text, or wrapping text around an image? Doesn’t sound like it, from what I’m reading above.
As for seeing images on the main page, some of the images I don’t see were added via the Add Media button in Rounded. It appears that I will have to re-enter them after changing to AutoFocus.
I read that when there is not image, the date and title and some of the text will appear on the main page. When I preview this theme, I see those as well as a placeholder with a big question mark. I wonder if there is a way to change that?
Thanks for the help.
I have only used Autofocus in a test blog for a short preview so I can’t answer your questions. I hope another Volunteer or Themes Staff will chime in and answer them for you soon.
“Does Autofocus allow alternating images and text, or wrapping text around an image?”
Yes of course. All themes allow this.
“some of the images I don’t see were added via the Add Media button in Rounded.”
Depends on how they were added. The front page in Autofocus will display an image if the image has been uploaded from your computer to your blog, via the Add Media button of that post. So it cannot display, say, your “Photo by Jakob Faarvang”, which was added via URL.
Thanks very much for your help.
