Images suddenly not displaying

    I’m using the Mixfolio theme and my (Mac) browser is Safari 10.6.8. This has worked absolutely fine up until now, but overnight on Feb 14 my site suddenly stopped displaying all images (just little blue question marks in their place). Site looks fine on the iPad, and on my partner’s older Mac running Safari 4.1.3. I’ve done the suggested things like clearing my cache etc, and I’ve created a new post with a new uploaded image, and find, again, that it displays fine on the iPad and the older Mac. So uploading and posting isn’t an issue – my site just looks like crud on this particular computer. Anyone else suddenly finding this since yesterday? And what can I do about it?

    I suggest you look to your virus protection. Particularly if it’s McAfee it can sometimes block the images. As well, if the computer is old and slow, it might have difficulty loading an image-intensive blog.


    Cheers, looked into it, but nope, doesn’t seem to be that. I’d stress that *nothing* has changed on this computer – nothing is different about it today from yesterday – and WordPress had worked absolutely fine for me for about a year until today. No problem with slowdown or anything like that.



    There’s no known issue I am aware of. Please work through what follows and report back.

    1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at please try upgrading or switching first.

    2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode.

    3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at

    (a) Try clearing your browser’s cache

    If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:

    (b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled

    (c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily.

    (d) Try enabling HTTPS:

    Add both * and * to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.”

    4. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. If it’s not then go to and download and install the latest version of flash.

    5. Try using another browser.

    6. If you are not successful let us know:
    (a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to
    (b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary
    (c) Exactly what you experience including what any error reports you receive state.


    Thanks, Timethief. But no, none of that’s doing the trick.
    a) I am using a Macbook Pro
    b) I am running Safari 10.6.8
    c) All my images on homepage and in posts appear as blue question mark.

    Again, WordPress has worked perfectly for me for the year since I signed up, and nothing has changed on this computer since yesterday. Problem started today.



    Check the rest of the internet. For me something has gone wonky and the entire internet has slowed to a crawl. Sites I was constantly on last week are now unuseable to me. I’m wondering if it has something to do with the big DDoS attack on Cloudflare, but then not all of the sites use Cloudflare and certainly not image servers.


    Totally back to normal today. Wonder what that was all about?! Maybe doing one of the above worked but had a delayed reaction? Or maybe it was something internal. “I’m sure it’s just a glitch,” as the man in RoboCop said.


    I have had this exact same problem since 14th Feb. I have two blogs both the same theme but only one is affected. I have tried everything and I can’t seem to sort the problem. My front page is fine but everything else looks a shambles.


    Yeah, mine’s now gone back to not working again. Just the same problem as you. My front page was fixed for a while but it’s broken again now, and all images everywhere (on public pages and within the CMS) appear broken if I use Safari. However, I downloaded Firefox and I *have* found that using Firefox instead of Safari means everything looks fine, so I guess that’ll have to be my workaround. I’ll just use Firefox whenever I want to edit WordPress.


    I’m glad it’s not just me, by the way. Not that I’m glad you’re having problems, but it’s good to have some validation!


    Interesting it was the exact same day. What I don’t get is the other blog, same theme etc, is just fine. I never touched any of the settings. Will try firefox. I had actually done nearly all the post and saved it to add some extra stuff on the 14th. Like that it won’t show me the images, the only way I can get them in the post is my clicking edit even though it is just a white box with a cross in it, . then copy then pasting the image in. I can see the images when I do that but it is a helluva palaver.


    One thing I’ve just found is that actually clicking on the blue box/white question mark (as if you were clicking on the image itself if you could see it) gets you: “Safari can’t open the page because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection”. Happens every time. So is this something to do with the WordPress server not being able to see the images for some reason? I have no technical nous in this area at all, so apologies if that question is bollocks.


    All I get is …The page cannot be displayed. I have no technical nous at all. Funny thing is that the first few times I clicked I got the image on the screen. But not now.



    I can see and all the images all over it using Firefox 27. That suggests you need to go through the process I posted above at

    Timethief – yes, as far as I can work out that is auto-enabled and standard in both Safari and Firefox. I’ve been through all the processes you posted above.



    Sigh … sorry I cannot help. Staff work through all forum threads tagged for their attention and through all email support tickets in order of datestamps and timestamps – first posted first served, as would be expected. It’s in your best interest not to post again until they respond because doing so will move the timestamp/datestamp forward and it will take longer to get help.



    Hi guys, sorry for the delay in replying.

    When I go to both sites in Safari 7.0.1 all of the images appear to be displaying properly.

    Please make sure you are running the most up-to-date Safari version and you have cleared your browser cache,

    After that, if the issue is still happening, please take a screenshot and post it to your media library:

    Then reply in this thread that you’ve done so, along with a link to the page or post where it’s happening, all the browsers you’ve tried (along with versions), and whether or not you see the same results on Safari in a mobile browser (if you have the ability to see that).

    From there, I can look into this further and see what I can find out.



    Please also let me know what country you’re in and your ISP, just in case there’s a connection.


    Hey Jackie – thanks for the response. I don’t know about Shehanne but everything is back to normal for me now – working fine again, with all images displaying normally. Been okay for me since Tuesday.
