index.php still loading after I added a home.php

I am trying to create a custom home page for my wordpress site. I followed a few tutorials and they are all saying “create a file called home.php and place it in the root folder of your theme”. From what I understand home.php is supposed to load instead of index.php, however, index.php is loading by default instead of home.php after uploading home.php. Is there another step in there somewhere I am missing?

Sorry, you need to head over to the forums as that is where self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG are supported.

These forums are for those hosted here on the wordpress.COM free hosting service and things here work differently.

If you are not familiar with the differences, see this support document.
