Dashboard –> appearance –> themes —> The “install theme” link should be here next to manage themes correct? It’s not showing up on this page anywhere and I could have sworn that’s where it used to be?

We cannot add themes at wordpress.COM. We are limited to the 170+ (and growing) themes found in the dashboard under appearance > themes. Themes found on the internet are for self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG.

Themes at wordpress.COM have to be modified to work within the restrictions here and to support the unique features.

The differences between wordpress.com and wordpress.org (self-hosted) sites.

I registered on wordpress.com and realized I should be on wordpress.org (I hadn’t added any content on my site yet). So what I’ve done is got new hosting and used their script to download the wordpress.org software to it and it seemed to go ok. Thing is, I’m not seeing the ability to install my own theme so I’m guessing I need to take extra steps to migrate from wordpress.com to wordpress.org?
Or, will I have to do something like below even if I have no content on my wordpress.com blog?

“If you want to move your WordPress.com blog to a self-hosted blog using the WordPress.org software, you have the option to purchase a Guided Transfer. One of our Happiness Engineers will transfer over all your content”

If you have no content on your site (the site linked to your name is empty) – you have nothing to move – so just start blogging on your new site. Save yourself $ 129 or so.

You should change things so your domain name points to your new site – update the name servers at your domain registrar to point to your new host.

Guess what I’m curious about is when I log into my site’s admin panel (https://mydomain.wordpress.com/wp-admin ) it’s still not giving me the option to install a theme, so I’m assuming I’m logging into wordpress.com.

Newb question is: how do I access my site in wordpress.org so I can add themes? Is it usually in my hosting’s admin panel, or do I have to ftp into it?? Thanks!

I’d love to but have any idea why https://mydomain.wordpress.com/wp-admin takes me to my wordpress.COM ? Do I have to FTP to get into wordpress.ORG where I’ve uploaded the latest wordpress version with my hosting companie’s script?
How do I completely disassociate with wordpress.COM? Thanks!
