Intergalactic Theme: How to make words appear below photo instead of over image
-
But the caveat is that I only want that effect on posts other than “standard.”
I’ve also tried not setting a featured image and just manually inserting the photo, but then I can’t figure out how to make it take up the whole width of the screen like it does when it’s featured.
I’m open to any solution or workaround you can think of.

Hi there,
I’m afraid this is not possible with Intergalactic theme, what do you think of Eighties theme?
-
Hi Diana,
Ok, thanks. Do you know how I can add custom CSS to make a photo that I insert into a post (not featured image) span the whole width of the screen? I think that would solve the problem also.

@theinsidejob2016, the entry content area has a maximum width of 660px, so images you insert into posts and full width will be only that wide. There are some tricks we can use to do things like this, but on a responsive width theme such as it most times breaks other things, or requires major additional CSS to fix all the things that break.
What if we were to move the text way down to the bottom of the image? If you wish to try that, add the following CSS and see what you think.
.single.single-thumbnail .entry-title { top: 85%; }

Hi!
I tried that but nothing happened… I’m supposed to paste that into the customize CSS right? The post is http://theinsidejob2016.com/2016/02/17/welcome-3/
so I pasted.single.single-thumbnail .welcome-3 { top: 85%; }
But to no avail.

Hi, I was thinking you meant on single post pages, such as on this one http://theinsidejob2016.com/2016/02/17/makeup-post-1/ . The CSS I gave above was for single post pages.
Welcome is standard format, but I’m not not seeing any text over the image, unless you are talking about the title that sits above the image.
Can you explain a bit further and un-confuse me and I’ll see what I can do for you?

Can you clarify please if captions or alt text are available in Intergalactic’s free theme? Haven’t been able to do so. I adore this theme but it’s the only thing that really bugs me about it.
-
Hi @suse777! Standard image settings are available on WordPress.com sites regardless of theme/upgrade.
From WordPress.com > My Sites, if you open a blog post in the new dash with an image in it, you can click the image to select it, then click the little speech bubble to add a caption.
There are some more image options available in the wp-admin dashboard (https://suestevensonwriter.wordpress.com/wp-admin/) too if you’d like to check those out.
You can find more information on the settings here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-settings/
Let me know if you have any questions! :)

Thanks Sarah. I wish I would check before I post. What I meant was is this available for featured images?
-
Oh, I see.
No, there isn’t currently an option for adding a caption to a Featured Image.
