Invalid SSL Certificate with WordPress Premium Domain

    Hi all,

I’ve been experiencing problems with the WordPress site http://himmlische-antworten.net/ which I administer.
When I try accessing the site using SSL (via https://) I get a certificate warning in Firefox, Chrome and IE (Error in FF: “Untrusted Connection” / “ssl_error_bad_cert_domain”) and can’t access the site unless I add a security exception. The domain is registered via the wordpress.com Premium Package. When accessing the site under it’s “native” domain (https://himmlischeantworten.wordpress.com) the problem doesn’t occur.

Does anyone know how I can solve this? Is there a manual way to renew the SSL certificate?

Thanks a lot and greetings from Germany!

The blog I need help with is himmlische-antworten.net.

You are referring to a custom mapped domain (not a .wordpress.com URL). Staff cannot issue SSL certificates for custom domains (mapped or registered at WordPress.com) at the moment.

When you’re sharing links to your site, if you are sharing them with https URLs like this:

    https://himmlische-antworten.net/

that will result in an error. However, provided you use an http URL like the following:

http://himmlische-antworten.net/ there should not be any problems.

    Hi timethief,

thanks for your reply. You are correct, using http:// works just fine. The problem is that some search engines link to https:// by default, and people like me who use browser plugins that redirect to HTTPS wherever possible see the error as well. Some less technically inclined people might not know what to do when faced with the error and thus, I’m losing traffic, which is unacceptable.

The domain is in fact registered through WordPress and not an external registrar, so I can’t make any changes to the domain, further than what is offered in the WordPress dashboard, which doesn’t include what I need.

    All help is much appreciated!

I have same situation on two blogs both of which have custom domains. I believe nothing has changed and Staff still cannot issue SSL certificates for custom domains (mapped or registered at WordPress.com) at the moment. I tagged this thread for Staff to take notice of your issue, concerns and feedback. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

This is still the case. It’s an issue we are aware of and working to resolve.
