Is advertising or promotion of sites allowed on word press?

  1. Does word press allow advertising or promotion of web-sites? I belong to and wanted to add a link to one of my posts that would direct readers to another site. I pasted code and the post said click here in blue. When I clicked it I should have been directed to the site. Instead I was led to wordpress-types of blogs. I also put in the URL of the website under links and it didn't appear on my post. Thank you for any help.

Did your read the types of blogs allowed and not allowed in the support entry that was linked to? Those links are NOT allowed and they can get your blog suspended.

In addition to AdSense-type ads, please do not use the following services on your blog: sponsored / paid posts including PayPerPost, ReviewMe, and Smorty; affiliate / referral links to the following domains: usercash, clickbank, clickhop, cashrocks, payingcash; clicktrackers (and any similar) and any promotion of the “I made a million on the internet and so can you” type of advertising (i.e. MLM, network marketing, cash gifting, etc.). Paid or sponsored post content is also prohibited. Please check our page on types of blogs for more information about what content is and isn’t welcome on

  3. Thank you for a thorough explanation. I will read word presses policies on allowable items. Thanks again.

  4. You're welcome. In a nutshell no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.COM blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM

The advertising exceptions noted in support documentation are for high traffic blogs that qualify for and are accepted into the Ad Control program, and for extremely high traffic blogs that qualify and are accepted into the paid VIP hosting program.

If you do require an ecommerce site, advertising and/or affiliate links you can hire a web host and get a free software install from Refer to >
