Is Guided Transfer available for transferring to WP Engine
Need help moving to another host because you guys don’t allow Google Analytics we need to be able to track inbound paid traffic. I noticed that your recommended list does not include WP Engine but would assume you can work with them since Automattic is part owner of WP Engine. Also need to know if we can have a refund for the remaining 5 months applied to the fee and wondering what the situation with regards to the domain name is as well. Since we registered with you not sure if it makes sense to leave you as registrar or not. Thanks!
The blog I need help with is computerextrasexpress.com.
Hi, thank you for your interest in Guided Transfer. We currently only support Guided Transfers to hosts listed here, and at this time we don’t support transfers to WP Engine yet.
Your upgrades are outside of the refund window (which is 30 days for most upgrades, 48 hours for domain registration), so no refunds are offered at this point.
For the domain registration, you are welcome to keep it with us if you choose. Note however that you cannot only keep the domain registration with us, you need to maintain the domain mapping as well (thus computerextrasexpress.wordpress.com will continue to redirect to computerextrasexpress.com at your new host). Many people also choose to transfer out their domain name and keep everything with their new host. You can find more information on domain transfer here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/

Ok thanks for the clarification so would we need the site redirect upgrade as well or just the registration/mapping? Also just curious if theres anyway to actually keep the two blogs in sync somehow. i know that with jetpack wp.com keeps some kind of local copy of the site anyway.
One last question, besides jetpack is there a list anywhere of plugins require to get the same functionality (or as close to it as possible) in self hosted i know that with guided transfer they do it for you but i’m thinking we really want to go with wp engine for this client so i may need to install those myself and i have not been able to find anything that lists them.
Thanks for your help and time!
No, there is no way to sync the two blogs, and Jetpack does not keep a local copy of your content.
Please keep in mind that duplicating content will severely affect your search engine ranking.
Jetpack will actually get you all of the current WordPress.com features.
As for the domain, don’t worry about that, our Guided Transfer team will help you with that.
ok thanks so it seems i should erase the existing wp.com blog after we are done. but yeah it sounds like i cannot use guided transfer if we want wp engine so i still need to know if it’s going to cost 18 a year to keep the domain with you guys or if it’s going to be 31.
oh yeah and good point about the duplication didn’t think of that. some automatic employe (i think it might have actually been more then one) had told me thats how jetpack worked is that some kind of local copy was made at wp.com
I’m still wondering though how much registration would be.
Oh, sorry about that, it would still cost $18/year to keep the domain registered through us.
ok thanks again.
