Is it possible to create a site and then have users upload audio files to it?
Hi there – I am looking at building a site which features audio files (I assume MP3 but I’m not an expert yet). I want to know if it’s possible to create a site and have users upload their audio files, potentially in unlimited numbers..?
The blog I need help with is mattkruze31.wordpress.com.

Thanks timethief, that’s useful. I think I need .org rather than .com because I’m going to need full control of my site, which will run more along the lines of an e-commerce platform (although I won’t be charging contributors). But…that means I need to be quite technical I think??
I agree with you and yes you have to be tech savvy as there is no support Staff to bail you out. In short, WordPress.org offers far more freedom, but requires taking more responsibility. WordPress.org provides only free software and peer support forums. You will be responsible for all upgrades, installations, backups, troubleshooting and security issues. If you install a theme or a plugin that negatively affects your blog, then you have to figure out what went wrong and fix it.
Hm, need to think about that then. I am not tech savvy and need to be realistic about that. I’m not stupid, but when it comes to technical prowess I’m hardly an expert (and that’s being kind to myself). Do you think WordPress is the way to go, or would other site building ‘wizards’ be a better option? I’m just not sure the likes of weebly, wix, moonfruit etc. will allow me to create something that I can grow, and give me the space to attract limitless contributor downloads?
Basically what you propose is not simple, and is highly dangerous in terms of security. WordPress.com is definitely NOT the way to go unless you have the $2600 per month or so that the VIP program costs. WordPress.org might be, but you’re still in for huge issues with security. You either have to do it yourself or pay someone.
So the likes of Youtube don’t have the issue with security because they can afford to throw millions at it? There’s not a simple way around the problem? What if I moderate every file that’s submitted (say via a submission form) and then post them on my site myself?
Yes, YouTube is literally throwing millions at the problem. Icanhascheezburger is paying $2600 per month to be hosted here.
There is no way to make a submission form here that includes attached media files.
When it comes to answering questions about WordPress.org installs, well, that’s what people like me charge good money for. You may or may not find an answer in their forums.
