Is wordpress slow only for me?

  1. Several times a day I have to close wordpress totally and go do other things because it's simply too slow. It takes forever to open a dashboard or someone's blog. Sometimes, after it finally opens I see not the whole page, it's without some styles.

    Does it only happen to me?

    This has never happened to me.

    I'm on the same connection as usyaka. Both and resolve to a server on EdgeCast CDN, which distributes load across different servers and regions, so that may explain why you haven't seen this, while we had.
    (I use a different browser, BTW).

    The fact that this only happens occasionally makes it harder to debug, but if WordPress or EdgeCast admins are interested, here's the traceroute log when it succeeds in connecting (except for 1-3 steps where my IP shows):

    Have you reported what you posted above directly to Staff. If not then here's the link After you use the searchbox, under the search results, at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.

    Will you please provide us with some details so we can try to help you?

    1. How are you connecting to the internet and to The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers.

    2. Are you using http:// or https:// see

    3.Which browser and version of it are you using?

    4. Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies?

    5. Is your browser version up to date? You can upgrade any browser version here.

    6. Do you have third party cookies enabled?

    7. Do you have JavaScript enabled?

    8. Do you have another browser you can try?

    9. You can use this link to see if your Flash is up to date. If it’s not up to date then this is where to download and install the latest version of Flash.

    10. Have you had any recent operating system and/or security program updates?
    Sometimes operating system and/or security system updates can cause problems so check for known issues.

  11. Speaking of turning things off and on, if you have a modem or DSL router etc, it is good to turn them off and reboot them every now and then too.

  12. Seriously, though, people from support emailed me back, said that there were issues that might have been fixed. I told them that there's still a problem with this particular server (, and waiting for their reply.

    Yes, indeed it is. Unlike those who leave their computer connected at all times I disconnect my computer completely every night form my router and from the electrical outlet every night.

    The first two members who posted into this thread are using the same connection and we do not know if the third member who posted is also using the same connection or not. So I tried not to post too much confusing stuff, as it could be that all that member needs to do is clear their browser cache and cookies. :)

  14. It's running very very slowly for me tonight too, and yesterday it was fine.

    I also reboot completely from time to time, sometimes that helps, sometimes it doesn't. (Am running Firefox on Windows XP)

  15. It's running every quickly to me and that's a great relief as I just spent two days without electricity/interent after a horrid windstorm.

  17. Yes I do think this may be regional based on the first two members who are using the same connection.

  18. Well, we are a blogging service with almost 25 million blogs and over 28 million users, so speed is never going to be a totally constant thing. There may be slow patches, but it should never slow to a crawl.

    We aren't having any network issues recently, and things seem to moving along smoothly for me.

    I'd reconnect resetting your router and modem. If that doesn't solve the issue, the slowness may be your ISP, and I'd recommend tracking down another connection just to check.

    Well, here's your network issue, which I finally managed to catch (see traceroute below). @absurdoldbird is in the UK, I'm in Montenegro, and my packets are stuck in London.

    As you can see from my previous trace, is the last hop to (s[n],, etc).

  21. Your connection is timing out before it even reaches our servers. This definitely looks like an ISP issue.

  22. @macmanx my connection is timing out between London and US, it's not my ISP issue, call EdgeCast.

  23. My WP has gone all wacky this pm. It spins and spins and doesn't want to post. I noticed that all of a sudden it is publishing my posts with the date of Nov. 14. I went in to make sure my settings show the correct time, but I still can't post even after correcting it. Any ideas? Cleared cache and cookies, no better.

  25. chestnykh, I got in touch with our systems engineers, and it looks like your first traceroute shows an issue on the very last hop from Edgecast, which we can report.

    We'll see if that takes care of it.

  26. It finally published, but with the correct time and date now, so I have no idea why everything was fine all day and then all of a sudden it started publishing things for the 14th. I didn't change anything. Oh well, people will just think I time traveled because my latest posts are now before my older ones.

    If you have marked any posts as sticky posts then you can edit the posts and remove that designation and restore correct reverse chronological ordering .
