Issue with placement of ads

I am having trouble with the ads on my WordPress site. The URL is coldshutters.wordpress.com. Ads appear at the top of my home page, directly in the way, and some of my friends aren’t able to load my page at all since only the ads are able to load. The website cannot load on phones either!

What can I do about this? Has my website been hacked or is this the usual ads associated with the free plan?

The blog I need help with is jonathandoyle.wordpress.com.

Edit: the correct URL is coldshutters.wordpress.com

Two adverts as displayed at the bottom of your “About” and “Contact” page and any Portfolio I click on is quite normal for a free WordPress.com site.
I am unsure if the two adverts displaying at the top of your Home page rather than the bottom could be normal for the theme you are using (as they aren’t obscuring any content) so I have added the modlook tag for a member of staff to confirm and to check the site correctly loads on phones .
PS: The one guaranteed way to remove all those ads is by upgrading to a paid plan: https://wordpress.com/plans

    Hi jonathandoyle,

Ads appear at the top of my home page, directly in the way

I’ve asked our ads team to look at the placement of ads on your homepage (Portfolio). They will be able to confirm if there are any issues or whether the ads are being displayed in the correct location.

The website cannot load on phones either!

I’ve tested coldshutters.wordpress.com from an Android phone and an iPhone — the site is loading for me. Which device and browser are you having trouble with? Can you tell me more about what happens when you visit the site using a phone?

Has my website been hacked or is this the usual ads associated with the free plan?

We displayed ads on sites without a paid plan, so their presence doesn’t mean you have been hacked. There is more information about our ads policy here, if you are interested:

I’ll let you know when I have more information from the ads team.

Thank you for looking into this. When I open the website on my Android phone using Chrome, I only see two large ads and no other content. Also, a friend of mine opened it on her iPhone and told me it looked “funny”. The ads are right at the top of the “Porfolio” page which makes people close the page as soon as they get to it instead of scrolling down to the content. I understand the ads are supposed to display at the bottom of the page, which is okay with me as I am using the free plan.

    Hi jonathandoyle,

The ads team have made some changes to your site which should help with the ad placement on the homepage — it sounds like issues on your Android phone were also related to this.

Also, a friend of mine opened it on her iPhone and told me it looked “funny”.

If this is still the case, it would be great if you could ask your friend to send a screenshot of what they are referring to. Please upload it to your Media Library and I’ll take a look.

    Thanks!

Thank you for looking into it. I will check on the website and see if the changes were effective.

In the meanwhile, I have uploaded a file to my media folder. It is a screenshot a friend of mine took when she opened my Portfolio page.

Update. My friend says that the intrusive ad problem has been solved! Thank you for your help with this.

Thanks for the screenshot, it looks like the issue your friend mentioned was based around ads being displayed at the top of the page. Glad we could help with this :)

My site (equinehistory.org) is also showing large numbers of autoplaying video adds, including sandwiched into columns so that not only does it interrupt the site the ad is not even effective.
