iTheme2 – Can I get a header for the featured articles/post?

    Hi,
    I have 3 questions regarding the theme “iTheme2” and my WP site is:
    http://blog.toyotaofelcajon.com/ or
    http://toyotaofelcajonca.wordpress.com/

    First of all, I’m wondering if it is possible to add a header (a black “label” similar to the widgets on the right side) to the Featured post/articles box at the top of the page.
    I tried to copy the CSS from the widgets already but that will only make the whole box “one big header/label” with no option of writing text on it.

    Secondly, I was wondering if it is possible to add an article/post to the featured and still have it displayed on the front page, below the featured box?

    And my last question, how do I make the posts on the front page “summaries” with a “read more…” button leading to the whole post?

    Thank you!
    Madeleine

    The blog I need help with is blog.toyotaofelcajon.com.

    First of all, I’m wondering if it is possible to add a header (a black “label” similar to the widgets on the right side) to the Featured post/articles box at the top of the page.

    Copying the CSS from the widgets was the right place to start. You can use the “:before” pseudo selector combined with the “content” property to add text. Give this a try:

    #content:before {
    	content: "Featured Articles";
    	background: #2E2E2E url(http://s0.wp.com/images/widgettitle-bg.png) repeat-x;
    	background:-moz-linear-gradient(top,#585858,#2E2E2E);
    	background:-webkit-gradient(linear,left top,left bottom,from(#585858),to(#2E2E2E));
    	background:linear-gradient(-90deg,#585858,#2E2E2E);
    	border-bottom:solid 1px #f5f5f5;
    	border-top:solid 1px #848484;
    	-webkit-border-top-left-radius: 8px;
    	-webkit-border-top-right-radius: 8px;
    	-moz-border-radius-topleft: 8px;
    	-moz-border-radius-topright: 8px;
    	border-top-left-radius: 8px;
    	border-top-right-radius: 8px;
    	-webkit-box-shadow:0 1px 1px rgba(0,0,0,.15);
    	-moz-box-shadow:0 1px 1px rgba(0,0,0,.15);
    	box-shadow:0 1px 1px rgba(0,0,0,.15);
    	color:#FFFFFF;
    	display: block;
    	font: bold 14px/110% "Lucida Grande", Arial, "Lucida Sans Unicode", sans-serif;
    	margin: 0 0 -5px 0;
    	padding: 6px 18px 7px 18px;
    	position: relative;
    		top: -36px;
    		left: -35px;
    	text-shadow:0 .5px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.7);
    	width: 634px;
    }

    Hmm, I might have put that featured articles heading onto the wrong thing, but the example above should still get you onto the right track if you wanted to adjust it or move it to a different element.

    Secondly, I was wondering if it is possible to add an article/post to the featured and still have it displayed on the front page, below the featured box?

    That’s not possible without editing the theme code directly, and WordPress.com does not offer that option.

    And my last question, how do I make the posts on the front page “summaries” with a “read more…” button leading to the whole post?

    You can do that with the more tag:

    Hi designsimply,

    Thank you so much for replying. I see what you mean by putting the header on the wrong thing (the content) but it did help a lot with the “before” command so Im sure I can figure it out now.

    Again, thank you!

    I am using this theme also and was just about to post a question similar to this. Thanks!
