Language settings

  1. The language setting does not appear in my general settings. I would like to keep my interface in English and my blog in French but i do not see the language change in my general settings. Do i need to add a plugin?

  2. I'm sorry but what you ask for is not possible on a free hosted blog. We can set only one interface language here > Settings > General for our blogs. Google translation widgets are Javascript and it's stripped out to preserve security on this mutiuser blogging platform. There is no FTP access and we cannot install plugins because this is a multiuser blogging platform ie. our blogs are not free standing and there are security issues that would arise if that access were allowed.

I have translation on my blogs. There are two workarounds and you will find them here >

If those do not suit you, you can write a blog post in the two languages and then post the two versions of the entry on the same blog, make each language category, create a custom menu and add the categories pages to it.

P.S. There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and we cannot install individual plugins into them for security reasons. Those found on the internet are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.

  3. oops! Sorry about the redundant final paragraph.
