rendering as
\epsilon > 0.

Do I have to escape the ">" somehow?
Not usually. It looks like there are a couple of HTML tags that got dropped into the middle of your $latex … $ syntax. Try editing in the HTML mode and see if there’s some stuff in there that doesn’t belong.
