Lengthy posts and disappearing widgets in sidebar

I’m currently logged in under my user name for a public blog with a no-ads upgrade, but need help with a different private blog registered under a different email address. I prefer not to post the name of the private blog on a public forum, but will give this information privately to WP staff if volunteers can’t help from the general details. Thank you.

Using Twenty Ten theme, have up to date versions of both IE and Firefox.on a residential cable/wireless connection. Caches have been cleared. This is a recently opened private blog known to and used by only 2 people to archive our own writing and photos. Many, though not all, posts, which were not originally written for a blog, are over 10K words.

This didn’t appear to be a problem until the Load More Posts/Infinite Scrolling options were introduced to this blog 2 days ago. (given the length of the posts, infinite scrolling is not an option, and I set Load More Posts I know it has to be one or the other.) Now, if the reading settings are set anything higher than 1, we can’t see our widgets in the right sidebar, making it impossible to search, click on archives or a category, etc from the home page to navigate quickly to another entry. It has to be done from our static pages, where the sidebar is unaffected. This is doable, but inconvenient.

I don’t mind if the homepage only shows 1 post at a time, but if we click on any of the categories, search, etc, there’s only one result at a time even though the sidebars are set for summary. This means we have to remember how many results are in each category and scroll back or forward using “Older/Newer Post” repeatedly, also not user-friendly. Ideally, we would be able to see more than one result at a time, even though the home page is only set for 1 full post.

Is there any way around these issues, please, preferably with the existing options that would not require us to leave hosted WP for self hosted or another blogging platform? Thus far, I’ve been very pleased with WP, but this problem may make the private blog impossible. It was my understanding that text space and length are effectively unlimited, as long we, the users, can accept long posts, and that only media uploads are limited. Thank you for any assistance.

I realize the above is an automated message and I understand the difference between WP.com and WP.org. As stated above, I am not posting about the public blog in my user name. I am posting about a private blog that I don’t want to identify on a public forum. I will identify it privately to WP staff if forum volunteers cannot help. Thank you.

    Thank you.

I will never NEVER understand why WP.com doesn’t change that default setting and prevent these problems.
