  1. I am new to blogging. I have noticed that after I publish a post, I get some *likes* from other WP bloggers. How does this happen? Where are they published for bloggers to read each others posts? Is it a random search or is there a specific spot that entries are posted each day? I'd like to know because I'd love to read others posts and return the favor of *liking* them.

    Thank You

The blog I need help with is

  2. Gravatar images are linked to Gravatar profile pages and not all of those who click like buttons complete their Gravatar profiles and provide blog links in them. I have wasted hours of my life using Google search to locate their blogs.

Likes and shares are misleading when you are talking about page view stats. Your followers and anyone with a blog who is logged into can "like" and "share" your posts in several locations such as in email and the Reader without ever clicking into your blog and creating a page view stat.

If your posts are public, which I assume they are, then they will appear in the Reader of your followers and in different 'Topics' categories for the public.
For example, if you tag your post with 'Music' then it will appear in the Music topic on WordPress.

If you want to read the blogs of the people liking your posts then you just click their Gravatar which @timethief has elaborated on. Just to summarise: if you click the little square with a picture in it (at the bottom of your post) , it will take you to that blog.

I only started this year too so I hope I got everything right! x

  4. if you click the little square with a picture in it (at the bottom of your post) , it will take you to that blog.

    That's not the case.

Gravatars when displayed under like button are not linked to blogs they way they are in comments. Under the like button gravatars are linked to gravatar profile pages and many bloggers do not enter their blog URLs on their gravatar profile pages.

  5. Thank you. Both pieces of advice has helped. I am a novice and each day find a new challenge and something new to learn about blogging.

  6. Timethief, I have found that out and am frustrated by not being able to thank the people who have liked my posts.

I think I registered my gravatar the correct way so that mine is linked to my Blog. If you have time or the ability, is there a way for you to see if I followed the prompts correctly?

    Thank You.

  7. @margber
You're welcome. For best practices for uploading your own gravatar see here and scroll down to just below the video > Gravatar, Avatar, Blavatar

    Also note this please:

The search engine indexes post, pages, and comments content (body text). Unless entered as text in those contents, blog name, post titles, and post/comment author names are not indexed.

  8. Also, When hover my mouse over my user name, why does it go to an old site that I do not use anymore rather than my wordpress site? I own my registered it at but would like to transfer it to WordPress. I do not understand how I can do that or it is is possible.

  9. Yes, you can chnage that. Here’s how to link your username to your blog in your blog Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Primary Blog‘ select the URL for your primary blog and then save changes.

  10. Thank You.

  11. Oh gosh, Now my dashborad defaults to that old Address. I cn not get it to switch back.

  12. Oops! I misunderstood. Your username is currently linked to I apologize.
Follow these instructions if you already have a domain that you registered elsewhere, and you want to map that domain to your blog.
    Also note >

  13. After you make the domain mapping purchase and do the set up it can take between 24 - 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here >

  14. Yes, I have been trying to work through those instructions for weeks and do not understand the terms. Also, I think I just did something which I hope is not irreversible. I can not access my WP blog anymore. It keeps taking me to

  15. This is your login URL for your blog
Try logging out and that will clear your browser cache. Then log in again using that URL.

  16. That URL takes me to my WP dashboard. When I try to access my WP BLog, it redirects me to

Help! I can not access my WP

  17. Not to worry as I tagged this thread for Staff help. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond.

  18. All of my Posts are gone. I keep getting redirected to I do not understand what happened. Can to get them back from your end?

  19. Also, when I hover my mouse under my user name in this gravatar seen here, It redirects me to What happened?

  20. Do you have any idea how long it will take them to get back to me. I am feeling desperate. I would feel more comfortable if I knew all of my work was not gone.

  21. Does anyone know yet where my Blog and its posts went?

  22. Please! Subscribe to this topic so you are notified when staff responds.

There is no reason to keep posting: staff will respond and all you need do is maybe have a cup of tea and be patient. We volunteers cannot help you.

  23. Thank You, That is all I was inquiring about.

  24. Yes, when faced with frustrating situations the waiting and not knowing is stressful. Staff does respond but no one can predict how long it will take. Sorry. But we can hope for soon…

  25. appears to be working just fine.

You did have mapped to your blog, but you canceled that today.

You can re-map it following this guide:

  26. From my end it does not appear to be working still. When I click on the link that is posted here, it redirects me to You can see that is the blog that opens.

I purposely canceled the mapping today because I assumed that was the problem and the reason for their web address showing up.

Could there be any other reason for me not being able to access my posts or my WordPress Blog? The dashboard comes up. The actual blog gets redirected.

    Thank You

  27. I rebooted logged out and rebooted and all seems to be back up again. I want to Thank You all....Macmanx, 1tess and mostly, timethief, for your help all afternoon and for your patience with my impatience.

You all make a wonderful team.

    Thank You

  28. You're welcome!
