'Likes' being gamed?
Although my post is ‘Liked’ by one or more persons, it does not count as “reads’
in my stats. I suspect my users are clicking “like’ in their WordPress.com reader without reading the full post so that they can get linkbacks to their
blogs. Is that the case? Has anyone else complained about this?
Is the ‘likes’ system being gamed i.e
are wordpress users being spammed by unwanted or inappropriate likes?
my posts include slideshows that do not display in the reader. How can
a user like a post without actually viewing it?
it just appears to be an attempt at link-building. What do you say?
In addition, does wordpress have a system to block other users who are
misusing the ‘likes’ system or intend to provide a block mechanism?
Currently the only option is to turn off the likes button. But that
does not prevent users from using the reader to view wordpress blogs.
The blog I need help with is maketimeforsports.com.
I’d say that’s exactly what does happen on blogs but I’m not sure it would be possible to find out who was just clicking ‘like’ to get you to read their blog. It definitely goes on though as sometimes, as soon as I’ve put a post out, it starts getting ‘likes’ immediately – they can’t possibly have read it in the first couple of seconds as mine are generally ‘wordy’ posts with few photos.
I think it’s just one of the few drawbacks of blogging personally…
Thank you for your reply.
In my case, I’m more concerned about my posts being slideshows and not showing up in the WordPress.com reader. You actually have to visit the blog to read those.
I can make allowances for people who are very fast readers. I am one , too!
