Link in the title of a post
oops! that didn’t work very well!
I used a href command in the title of the post is what I said! :$
What is the URL of the site you are talking about?
Hello thesacredpath – thanks for coming to my aid.
My blog site post URL is: http://pleasepresshere.wordpress.com/2011/10/18/fencing/
The link I’d put into the title was: Fencing, but it just goes to my post, not to the website…
OK, here is the thing. WordPress has never allowed links in post titles, or as far as that goes, any HTML other than perhaps an odd case or two where you could put italics or bold on a word in a title.
So in short, you probably found a loophole that has been closed.
Oh! So are you saying they’ve just closed it, but it still works for those done retrospectively?
It would likely work till you opened the post in the editor and then saved it again and then it would revert back to the internal post link.
:) Thanks for that. It’s a pity though.
Post titles can work as external links only in themes that support the Link post format – see here:
How do I add a HTML link or an HTML image link to my front Static page
Thanks for that link – I’ve been using “Under the infulence” by Spaceperson, and, as I said, it’s let me put links in the title before.
I’ve just been using the standard coding as explained here (as elsewhere) HTML coding. HTH
Hmmm The plot thickens!
Thanks for trying that panaghiotisadam. I wonder if it’s just an anomomy then?
You’re welcome. Could you please paste here the exact thing you tried to put in the title? For the code to show up, you need to paste it between backticks.
Ah yes, it’s the strange thing I had discovered here (back when there was no custom menu feature):
Your link won’t work because “Fencing” is a single word. Add a space and it will.
:o Really? I’ll go and try that immediately! :) Thanks
