Hello. I need to know whether I can do this on my own: I am completely code illiterate.
Basically I want to set 5 of my categories as clickable links (with images) in the header. Or the space where the header is, just below the blog title. So I want there to be five links right below the header, going across, each link is one of my categories.

Can a code-illiteratre person do this?

The blog I need help with is thenewcomer.wordpress.com.

First off we need a link to the site you are talking about.

Also, I think you were answered here in the other thread you started on this subject.

Hi, Thank you for all the replies. I did read the other thread linked above but couldn’t understand it, so I thought I should rephrase my question more clearly.

    This is the blog:

If the reply is the same as the other thread, I guess that it means its just too complicated for me. ;)

With your current theme, you could create a custom menu with (text) links to categories in the header; you could also have a series of featured posts, choosing several posts from different categories, to show on the front page.

Imbalance 2 offers two layout options, fluid and fixed.
Fluid means the width changes according to screen resolution (or the width of browser) your visitors use.
Fixed means the width does not change according to screen resolution (or the width of browser) your visitors use.
    Imbalance 2 theme description
    Imbalance 2 live demo site

Column one is the blog title and tagline; you edit them in Settings > General.
Columns two and three are for two menus; you create and load them in Appearance > Menus – instructions here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
Column four is for widgets; you add them in Appearance > Widgets.

Note that the theme does not have custom image header that spans the top of the blog. The custom header image is only 210 by 170 (width, height) and it’s on the top left coner. The only way you can add a custom image header that spans the top of the blog is to purchase an annually renewable custom design upgrade and do the required CSS editing.

I recently changed my theme to Imbalance2.
I have images in each of my short story posts which I would like to insert on the homepage.

How do I get the images to display?

    Thanks.

    Dear Andy:

Thank you for your inquiry about Imbalance2.

Even if you already have images inserted into your posts they will not display on your homepage.

    You must do the following:

    1. Go to your DASHBOARD
    2. POSTS/ ALL POSTS
    3. Open a post with EDIT.
    4. Next to upload/insert you will see a camera icon.
    5. Click on that camera icon.
    6. ADD MEDIA will open up.
    7. Click on the tab called “Gallery”
    8. Click on the photo that you already added a long time ago that you want to display on your home page.
    9. At the very bottom click USE AS FEATURED IMAGE.
    10. X out of the box.
    11. Click UPDATE on the right side of the page on your EDIT POST page.
    12. You will now (50% or greater chance) see the image on your home page.

You will not find this answer on any information page on WordPress.

    Hopefully this will help.
