Loading problems

  • My blog is not displaying properly in that the page is loading “continuously” and rapidly. This is apparent on both Safari and Chrome. I’ve also loaded my blog on other computers and the same problem exists. Any idea why this is happening?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • That is very odd. Try disabling infinite scroll first off, and see what that does.

  • Can you tell me how to do that?

  • Hi there,
If infinite scroll is enabled on your blog, you can disable it on this page > Settings > Reading and set the number of post you wish to appear on the front page of the blog.

    Look for:
Blog pages show at most ____ posts
enter the number of posts you want to display

    scroll down to:
To infinity and beyond ___ Scroll Infinitely
(Shows 7 posts on each load)
    remove the checkmark

scroll down and click “save changes”

Disabling the infinite scroll feature to get rid of the pop-up in the footer results in a “Load More Posts” tab, and you can’t disable that “Load More Posts” tab from appearing and have “previous post” and “next post” links, without the Custom Design upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/

  • Hmm, I don’t think infinite scroll is enabled on my blog.

  • The behavior varies from browser to browser – for instance in my Safari (Mac) the page loads fine, but if you scroll down (past “Normally Overrated”) the page keeps jumping up and down. This is happening because the theme tries to load the Likes (which shoudn’t be happening on the main page). It’s a new bug that WP introduced, so only WP can fix it.

It is exactly that, in IE it just keeps jumping and then Chrome keeps refreshing. Both causing the machine to go into overdrive and completely shut down.
Have you just left your blog as it is?

    Will wait on WP.

    Thank you so much.

  • Hi there!

It’s a known bug with using Likes with Quote or Status post formats and we’re working on the fix for this error now.

@trichfong – edit the post titled “Normal(ly) Overrated” and uncheck the “show likes” option at the bottom of the post editor page. Edit any other posts you’ve made using the Quote or Status post formats and uncheck likes until we get this fixed.

    I hope that helps!

  • Awesome, thanks all! It seems to work fine now.

  • Great! Let us know if you have any other problems.

  • @csonnek: Great? The Likes aren’t supposed to show on the main page, are they?
The bug isn’t confined to Quote or Status post formats, and it isn’t confined to Forever.

  • @justpi – if you enable likes on the main page under Settings -> Sharing, it will show up on the main page.

We are aware of this problem and are also aware that it is not theme-specific. We’re working on fixing this problem now but in the meantime, disabling likes on those specific post formats will stop the page from jittering around.

  • if you enable likes on the main page under Settings -> Sharing, it will show up on the main page.

Right – sorry: it used to show only when viewing a single complete post, but you changed that.

disabling likes on those specific post formats

Sorry to insinst on this, but I’ve even seen the bug on a static page.

  • @justpi – thank you! I’ve made a note of this for the team.

  • Hi,

I’m having loading problems with my site as well (www.academicmedicineblog.org), but I’ve checked my posts and don’t have any in the quote or status format. Anything else I can do?

  • @journalstaff could you please start a new thread to describe your issue in detail, and add the word modlook in the Tags section in the right column so Staff will respond.

    Thank you!

  • I am unable to load my blog bookwormfiles. In fact I am unable to load any blog. Graphics do not show and all I get is the text of the dashboard , left indented. This just started yesterday the 20th of April. Any help would be appreciated.
