Locally-Hosted WordPress Blog & Plugin Download

  1. Hi,

just wondering if it is possible to download plugins and install them manually, without having to turn on FTP on the server.
It's a slightly obscure request, I know, but I want to test some plugins, and I have a test local WordPress installation setup on a desktop Mac.

Ideally what I'd like to be able to do is download the plugin .zip files directly, rather than doing it from the WordPress Admin panel, then simply drag them to the appropriate location in the blog installation folder.

I can't seem to find any publically-accessible repository of current plugins though- perhaps WordPress don't want you to be able to download them directly. Anyone know if what I'm trying to do is in fact possible, or is it just a silly idea?

  2. You need to inquire over at http://wordpress.ORG/support/ which is where self-hosted wordpress software is supported.

See the sticky thread at the top of the forum main page for the difference between wordpress.ORG and wordpress.COM.
