Locked out of wordpress and stored log in details no longer valid. Email address and username not recognised
Had some issues with plugin updates. I was going through them and deactivating then reactivating to find out which one caused a problem. I reactivated one and then instantly was logged out. Tried to log back in but the username/email is no longer recognised even though it is stored on my pc and was what I used to log in. Don’t have how to regain access.
Can you please let me know your site’s address so I can point you in the right direction of getting support?
Please note that these forums are for WordPress.com hosted sites only. If your site is using the open source WordPress.org software you need to seek help at these forums:
Your site is not hosted on WordPress.com, so we cannot help with this. The password for that site has no connection to your WordPress.com account, but is stored in your site’s database on your hosting provider’s servers. We don’t have any access there to help you reset it.
You can see the password reset instructions for your version of WordPress at https://wordpress.org/support/article/resetting-your-password/
For more help with this, please post in https://wordpress.org/support/forums or contact your hosting provider instead.
But it’s the WordPress system for my website that I can’t log into. I have a WordPress account for that website but it is saying that it is not recognised. I was logged into WordPress 2 hours ago so don’t understand the reply.
“WordPress” is the name of the software your site is built on. There is no “WordPress system”. There’s only the admin account for your site, which is specific and unique to your site only.
WordPress.com, where you’re posting now, is something completely different. We are a hosting provider that uses our own, modified version of the WordPress software. Your site is not hosted with us, and not using our version of the WordPress software, and your WordPress.com username account has no connection at all to the admin account for your site.
WordPress.org is the website where a community of volunteers make and support the open source software. Neither your site’s admin account, nor your WordPress.com account, can be used to log into WordPress.org, so if you have an account there it’s a third, completely separate account. You need an account there to post in those forums to get help, but that’s all such an account does.
Contacting your hosting provider, or asking in the WordPress.org forums for advice, are the only ways to get help with this. We at WordPress.com have absolutely nothing to do with your site, so we cannot help you here.
