Looking to claim the username of a deleted blog

I run a podcast with a friend called Timey Wimey TV (we’ve been running for over a year now) and we were looking to transfer our blog to WordPress.com hosting (currently it’s independently hosted using a WordPress installation on a different service provider). I tried to register the name timeywimeytv.wordpress.com, but it shows up as taken — however, when I visit that URL, the blog is listed as deleted. What’s the statue of limitations on claiming deleted blog names? Let me know and thanks!

That’s not possible. Usernames can be turned into blog addresses, but blog addresses cannot be turned into usernames. For most usernames and blog addresses are the same. When we register a WordPress.com username account the matching blog is automatically reserved for our future use. That reserved blog cannot be obtained by anyone other than the person who has registered the matching username.

Deleted blog URLs here are not recycled. That’s why 3 warnings are given and why a vertfication link in an email that must be clicked is sent in order to accomplish deletion.

You can register another blog on a .wordpress.com subdomain with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/

Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.
