lOST SUBSCRIBERS

  • I have just noticed that i have lost 2 or 3 subscribers the total has gone down to 143.

I thought people could not un-subscribe.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • No people can in fact unsubscribe. I can unfollow following blogs without going to their blog.

  • Anyone can easily unsubscribe via either their subscription settings, an Unfollow button above the blog, or a link in the emails that they receive.

  • Macmanx, is their any way for me to check which blog it was.

  • Well, it would be the blog that lost the subscribers, of course.

If you mean check which subscribers you lost, there is no way to do that.

  • Except you check the e mail notifications if you’ve not deleted them and see which subscriber is missing.

  • I need short term subscribers. I teach a class. How do I drop the old students from my subscribed list? In other words,-I no longer want them receiving my posts. Thks, Prof. L.

  • You can not delete them from your followers list. Ask them to unsubscribe themselves.

@dribblingpensioner – unfortunately it happens from time to time, people like to have a change of blogs they read and they unfollow/unsubscribe from some. The way to find out who has unsubscribed is to keep close track of who has subscribed. If – as hnsaifi suggested – you have emails sent to you when someone subscribes/follows then you can just see who is missing from your list by checking one against the other but, if you have a lot of followers that can be a total pain to do. An alternative – which I used to do from time to time – is to take screenshots (which you can save via any graphics program on your computer, even Paint) of each page of your subscribers/followers list and then if someone leaves, you can just look at the image file on your own computer of who’s missing. However, in the normal course of things on a blog, people do come and go, so it’s much better to just try not to worry about it – if you can. :)

@hnsaifi – some while ago on WordPress.com what is now called ‘follow’ was called ‘subscribe’, so they are actually the same thing. Also – your suggestion of checking email notifications is a good one but not everyone has their subscriptions emailed to them. It’s possible to opt in or out of having subscription notifications emailed to you by going to dashboard – settings – discussion and checking or unchecking the ‘E-mail me whenever’ options on that page (remembering of course to scroll down afterwards and click the ‘save changes’ button!)

  • @dribblingpensioner I lost a follower because she deleted there WP account and people shut down their accounts all the time, for a variety of reasons.

I also lost one after a day, I believe they might have been just a spam account.

  • Yes true. Your original subscribers never leave you in the lurch. They are spammer who leave you and this doesn’t effect you at all.

@ hnsaifi – with respect, subscribers do unsubscribe, even non-spammers.

  • I do respect your opinion too.

  • @ absurdoldbird, i did take screen shots a good while ago and then deleted them so i might do it again. I would like to find out so that i can unsubscribe from their site.

@hnsaifi, in over three years in wordpress i have never had a spammer subscribe to any of my sites.

@dribblingpensioner – one point: people usually subscribe to or follow a blog because they want to read it, not to having exchange links for the sake of them. How do you know in advance that the blogs that have unsubscribed from yours might not be blogs that you will still enjoy reading?

  • absurdoldbird · Member ·

Sometimes people unsubscribe from a blog simply because they want a change or because they have subscribed to too many blogs and can’t keep up with them all.

  • @ timethief, i know, i get plenty of spam but never a subscriber.

@ absurdoldbird, true points in both comments.

I got a post that one subscriber posted saying she had unsubscribed from over 200 blogs and also over 300 RSS links, so i must be included.
No wonder with such a great amount of mail etc.
