Managing my blog pages
Hi, how do I manage my blog in terms of the pages? At the moment all my posts are on one page and Ive got the option to look at posts by month but what I’d ideally like id for the front page to only display the pages from the current month while users can view older posts by clicking on previous months.
We need a link to your wordpress.com blog, please.
Okay, here’s what you can do. Create a new page and put this in the title:
<a href="http://realmerengue.wordpress.com/2008/10/">October Posts</a>
This will create a page with the title ‘October Posts’ which will link directly to the archive page with all the posts from October in it. For some reason, this only works if the title you give to the page has a space in it, so if you only want one word, be sure to put a space at the end of it. You can then remove the archive widget from your sidebar if you like.
You can do this for every month, though clearly, after a while, this will become very unwieldy.
I notice that yours is quite a new blog, so perhaps you’re not aware that once your front page reaches a certain number of posts, these automatically move onto other pages accessible by clicking ‘Next Page’ and ‘Previous Page’. This, together with the archive widget, is the best way of navigating the site. The pages method you wanted and that I’ve described will only work well for a few months. Imagine having pages for two or three years worth of months!
You can also change the number of posts your front page will display under Settings – Reading.
I thought organising it by months was the best solution but its probably best to leave it as it is and installing the archive widget. I thought the posts would accumulate on one page but they dont. Thanks for the help.
You’re welcome. I think that is the best solution.
