Hi – I have just added some new menu items and pages. Although I can navigate to the pages the items do not appear in the drop down menus. Eg. on my page there are approx. 25 items in ‘My Poems’ and a new item in ‘documents’. Also the tags and categories do not appear when building or editing now. Thank you.

    Hi @gailsingle,

Is it your goal to display a series of posts related to the ‘My Poems’ tag on the My Poems page?
My Poems is a static page so it can’t feature an updated list of your posts.

As for the items not showing in the drop down menu, you can fix that by sorting and indenting any type of item (tag/category archive page, single posts, pages, external links etc) as explained here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/.

I still got the doubt I haven’t fully replied to your questions. If there’s something I missed, can you expand it so I can help you? Thanks!

Thank you so much @stefaniamattana. This sorted my menu items. WordPress must have changed, I’m sure, since I last posted. These items were there for a number of years and only stopped displaying when I added new items yesterday.

Still a question of adding tags. Do I need to add them seperately? I used to be able to add a whole list of them at once.

    To this single post
    https://gailsingle.wordpress.com/2015/12/20/living-consciously-in-divine-truth/ you assigned:

You are inadvertently spamdexing ie. tag spamming.

All reasons for non-appearance of posts on Topics pages can be found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/#missing-posts
The combined total of categories and tags on any post must not exceed 15 or it will not display on Categories and Tags pages and in the WordPress.COM Reader.

As you have assigned a combined total that exceeds 15 Categories/Tags to your posts, you need to edit and delete. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/ After removal of the excess categories and/or tags note it may take several days for your posts to begin displaying there.

You ought to be more concerned about your posts not appearing and being well ranked on Google and Bing SERPS (search results pages) than not appearing in the Reader and on the WordPress.com Topics pages because it’s search engines that send a significant flow of traffic to blogs and they can choose to bury your content where the sun don’t shine for that.

The rule of thumb is to assign to your posts the least, not the most, combined number of only relevant categories and tags that accurately describe the individual post content. And, you never assign the same keyword or keyword phrase as both a category and a tag. For tips on tagging see > http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2013/03/15/quick-blog-post-tagging-tips/
