You can create a cusom menu and include exactly what you want in it while excluding what you don’t want from it.
Among the most common misconceptions is that bloggers fail to understand is
(1) there is only one page we can post to in any blog and
(2) the static pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ they create do not automatically update.
Only the dynamic pages like Categories, Tags and Archives created by the software when we publish a post we that we have assigned Categories and Tags too will update automatically update with posts.
By default the front page of the blog is the post that displays all posts in your blog. Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.
We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the dynamic categories pages into the custom menu.

There are many common errors, misunderstandings and misconceptions when creating custom menus and you can read about them here. > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/
Thanks for your message. I’m fine with all of that but I’ve got a problem when I get to step 3 in the onecoolsitebloggingtips custom menu walk through.
When I edit the custom menu I’ve set up, there is no “Pages module” that looks like the pic on the onecoolsitebloggingtips page.
There is a “Posts” module that looks like that (with the Most Recent, All tabs along the top). This is what I mean about how it will only allow me to add Posts to the menu, and not the Pages or Links I have created.
Reading through the article on wpbtips, it definitely sounds like I should be able to do what I’m trying to do.
Study my article more carefully please. Among other things, it says:
C. How to
Click Screen Options (top right) and make sure Theme Locations, Custom Links, Posts, Pages, Categories and Tags are checked.
Ah thank you, that’s fixed it. I thought there must be some checkbox somewhere that I needed to check. Thanks for your help.
