I have a slight problem with my menu. It’s not exactly a ‘problem’ per se, but there is a way I prefer my menu to be. My menu has about four or five pages in it and two or three of them have sub pages and sub-sub pages. The problem is this. To access these sub pages and beyond, all it takes is moving the mouse over the parent pages and it expands automatically to the subpages for the mouse to select which one. I do not want it to do that. I want it the usual way. Where one has to click on these pages to find links to the subpages and beyond.
How do I set the menu to act like that?
PS, pardon my site right now. It seems unprofessional because I’m really just testing wordpress out before making a real blog. Thank you.
The blog I need help with is readmysite.wordpress.com.
I am visually challenged and the background image on the blog is so overpowering that it interferes with my ability to see the text. The answer to your question is switch to using a theme that displays the way you want it to display. http://wordpress.com/themes/
Thank you. But how do I know which theme to use that will stop the menu from acting this way?
Browse through themes in the Themes Showcase, read the description for them and visit the live demo sites. then choose the one that performs the way you want it to. http://wordpress.com/themes/
Ok, thank you :)
You’re welcome. Note that flyout menus are a feature of WordPress and that’s what you describe above.
The Theme Showcase site won’t tell you which themes automatically display links to subpages in the top menu and which don’t, so forget the site as far as this detail is concerned, use any theme you like, create a custom menu, add only the items you want, and edit the pages to create links to the subpages yourself. For details on custom menus see this post of mine:
That will help justpi. Thank you very much. I have favorited your post for use the next time i mess with my site in the coming days or so.
The menu is still giving issues. Thanks to justpi, I managed to make the page title disappear but there is still a dropdown, albeit with an invisible name. I don’t want a drop down period. I want child pages and I want links to these child pages, but I do not want a drop down.
Does anyone know how to solve this?
For an edit, on my site, http://www.readmysite.wordpress.com, the parent page on my menu I am referring to is New Page With Children. As you see, it still drops down but the title of its child page is simply invisible. I don’t want a dropdown at all. Just a link to the child page on the parent page itself.
We didn’t say remove the page name, we said create a custom menu and add only the items you need. If you don’t want the dropdown to “page-i”, go to Appearance > Menus, open the “Page I” item, remove it, save menu.
I see! Thank you very much. I seemed to have misunderstood a little something. I am very new to building websites and don’t know a lick of code. Thank you justpi.
