Migrating Tumblr to Blogger (via WordPress) – lost most images in transfer :(

    Hello, WordPress forum,

I hope someone out there is able to help.

I am helping a friend move from a Tumblr account to Blogger (long story!, but a WordPress blog is not an option …)

Since there is no direct Tumblr-Blogger migration tool, I was advised to import to WordPress first, then export, convert to XML file to blogger format and import to Blogger.

I did all of the above: while all original Tumblr posts showed up fine in WordPress, most of these post images are now gone in Blogger.
Instead the post will just display the word [gallery], but there is no photo :(

Please Help – is there any way to migrate the existing photos from the WordPress posts to Blogger (instead of re-psoting photos of some 500+ posts!)

I’m afraid we don’t do support for Tumblr or Blogger here. We cannot help you.

    Hello,

The short answer to your question is “no;” if you would like more information, please read on.

The Tumblr importer for WordPress assumes that you will be leaving the content on WordPress/WordPress.com or a system that understands WordPress content if you are to export that data later.

When you import images from a Tumblr blog, they are placed into a gallery automatically and the method you are using to import that into Blogger doesn’t “understand” these galleries or how they work.

We’d love it if you would move your blogs to be here with us at WordPress.com; if you need any help or have any concerns about that, please let us know and we’ll be happy to answer your questions about our service.

    Thanks!

Just a note: the importer has been changed so that posts with a single image will now have the image and not a gallery, so this process may work better now, but we can’t offer any promises since you are moving to a different platform.

Again, if you have questions about WordPress.com, please let us know.

    So Bureausf!

Where we shall find our solution?

When I import my posts from Tumblr to WordPress, more than HALF of my posts are lost in the transfer. Out of say 1000+ posts on tumblr, only about 300-400 of them will make it to my wordpress account, even if it says that all 1000+ posts have been imported. I didn’t even try to do a transfer to blogger. The transfer from Tumblr to WordPress is frustrating enough.

    Hello,

The blog that is specified in your WordPress.com profile appears to have been deleted; is there a current WordPress.com blog to which you have recently made this import? I’ll be happy to take a look at that for you and see if I can’t figure out what’s going on.

Thanks, and have a great weekend!

Hi, here’s the blog I am currently trying to work with. http://thisismyblogandilikeit.wordpress.com/

I actually made my own topic on the forum that explains in greater detail the issues I’ve been having. Here is the link to it, https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/why-am-i-having-trouble-importing-pictures-from-tumblr?replies=4#post-1295641

This is what I tried.. I have a Tumblr blog with 6,100 posts .. I have lost my trust in Tumblr and have a distaste for the overall atmosphere. So I moved Tumblr to WordPress with the hopes that the XML file could be converted on the WordPress2Blogger site.. However, my XML file is 17 mgs and WordPress2Blogger only allows 1 mg.. So Now I am back in the same boat again.. not sure how to get this site to move.

    Heya @schmuckraker,

Are you trying to import your Tumblr blog in to WordPress.com or are you trying to use a third party tool to export from Tumblr? If the latter, I’m sorry but there isn’t much that we can do to help with that. If the former, I’ll be happy to do what I can. Let me know which blog you’re trying to import in to and I can take a look.
