Missing 'Add New' button next to theme search box

  1. I am fairly new to wordpress and I am trying to upload a theme from a third party I recently downloaded. When I look up tutorials, they direct me to click appearances>themes> top left next to theme search 'add new' button, however this is missing from my site. Is this something only available to those using a type of premium wordpress subscription?

The blog I need help with is promazo.wordpress.com.

  2. It's not missing. It does not exist on wordpress.COm hosted blogs.

  3. If you are reading anything that makes you think that bloggers can install plugins, custom themes or third party themes on sites hosted by wordpress.COM, then you are mistaken/misinformed. We have never had that ability. You are confusing wordpress.COM hosted blogs and wordpress.ORG installs on paid hosting.

There is no FTP access https://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/ and no blogger installed plugin capability is provided on wordpress.COM hosted sites for security and stability reasons. No upgrade changes that reality. Here at wordpress.COM we have built-in plugins. https://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/

A self-hosted WordPress site may be what you need. WordPress.org offers free software that you can install on a web server. Unlike wordpress.com, you can upload and install themes and plugins, run ads, conduct e-commerce and edit the database. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

This guide will explain how to move your WordPress.com site to another hosting platform: Moving to a Self-Hosted WordPress Site

We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. Our support docs do not apply to
    (1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
    (2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

As you need a site that is not hosted here, if you don't have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.
